There's something about a Tiger Moth that brings a nostalgic glint to the steeliest eye. Perth's Royal Aero Club has a beautifully restored one that they make available for scenic flights over Perth from their headquarters at Jandakot Airport.
A half hour flight will currently (Nov '07) cost you $190 and take you from Jandakot over Fremantle and on to Cottesloe Beach (see the Intro photo here on this Perth page). $360 will give you an hour and extend the trip over Perth with a loop or two thrown in for good measure if you're feeling adventurous. The views are splendid and the sense of flying history tremendous as you take to the sky in this classic aircraft.
Take some extra time to look around the airport, one of the busiest in Australia. With its Royal Flying Doctor base, flight training colleges, Calm Forest and Bushfire Patrol base and all its other comings and goings, there is always something to see. There is a small outdoor viewing area from where you get a good view of the runways.

There was five of us, all wanting to go to Rottness island and when looking at the cheapest ways of getting there, we came to the conclusion it would have to be private jet, so off to jandakot airport where we met Fred, the pilot. A short 20 minute trip or so and you're landing at the airstrip on Rottness Island. The plane itself was very small, but worth every minute.
it cost around $Aus 300.00 for the five of us to have a return trip there, and on the way back we were offered a scenic route around Perth, but due to bad weather, and a long day we declined that offer. That added to the trip would have added another AUS$100 to the total.

After having arrived in Perth yesterday, we thought what can we do, that we havent ever done before and someway to see perth... and came to the conclusion that a helicopter ride was needed. A quick flick through a friends Yellow Pages we found a company called "heliwest group" which did both lessons and rides from janakot airport.
5 mins is AUS$ 60,00
15 mins is AUS$135 per person..
We decided that 5 minutes wouldnt really be adequate so off we went in search of this airport and eventually found it after much map reading. All of us got shown the basic safety,ie dont go toward the back when the blades are moving etc...given our headphones with small microphones, strapped in and off we went..Was a lot of fun. I was lucky enough to be sitting at the front, next to the pilot so not only could i see in front of me, sideways and also down by my feet there was a small window, which i also had a look through.
Best thing about it though, was being in the air, you can feel the change in the air, as it bumps you very slightly (not like turbulance on an airplane, much less!!) but it was a very very very cool experience.I will not forget that in a hurry :D

What better way to see the city and the beaches. The flights leave form the side of the Swan river - right in the middle of the city.
It's worth the money!

It goes for one hour over pretty much the whole of Perth.
It operated from Jandakot Airport. Bookings are essential.
After the flight we had a coffee in the cafe on site.
