A large imposing mix of a series of Victorian and modern glass buildings, the WAM is just seconds from the Art Gallery of WA and forms part of the cultural island that includes WAM, AGWA, PICA (Perth Institute of Contemporary Art), State and The Blue Room Theatres and the Central Library.
A large modern double level foyer, predominantly glass, connects the two main Victorian wings and covers exactly what you would expect the State Museum to cover - anthropological and social history of the State, zoology, minerals etc...
It's free entry so you can dip in and out - sadly it is somewhat old-fashioned in its layout with a lot of glass cupboards.
Open Thursday - Tuesday (closed Wednesday), 9.30am-5pm
