    Sharks

I have decided to put this warning on due to the recent events over the past three years.

There are an increase in shark numbers and they do come closer to the shores now, with many attacks happening not far from the shore. These attacks have been fatal and happen on young people.

I live in Perth and have swam at the beach forever however now it is best to take precautions just in case. Coming from a local you would be stupid if you didn't.

I never swim deep anymore and often swim at beaches with other people and where there are safety patrols. Try not to swim around dusk and dawn. Try not to swim in places where commercial fishing occurs or where there may have been a beached whale.

There is so much ocean out there and of cause we will mix with the life in the ocean which = sharks so it is best to respect this.

    Sharks In The River

I say an article today in the paper on the sharks in the swan river - appartently they have always been present in the river - which is a shock to me!!!

Bull sharks can survive in the fresh water and they often come into the swan due to the amount of food available. They rarely attack as they are well fed!

Bull sharks are agressive sharks. Fisherman along the river always come in contact with them and have often caught them on their lines.

Since 1900 there are been six attacks in the swan river - one being fatal. The last one was in the 1970's.

In saying this i have never seen one! But still it is good to know these things!!!

Lived in Perth most of my life and lived in the water at Perth beaches...yet I am still alive. Amazing....not. Alot of hype regarding sharks etc for overseas people, they are very rare to hear of one let alone see one. If concerned, stick to patrolled beaches and swim between the flags on the beach, and you won't have a problem.

Although the chances are very slim, while i was in Perth, a bloke was killed by a shark on Cottesloe beach, the main tourist beach!
    that was in 2001

in 2013, the siren went off as there were sharks in the bay and 4 helicopters circled keeping an eye on them.

dont youre more likely to be killed by a cow than a shark!

    Perth Sharks

You're probably more likely to get run over by an over-keen boogey board basher, but I wouldn't go swimming out too far just in case......... :o)
