The best!! by TheWanderingCamel If Australia has a national "fast food " it must be the humble meat pie. No-one makes them the way we do - no, not even the Kiwis across the ditch - they're available every where and millions of them are eaten every day. Lots of places will make claim to make the best - and some are very, very good indeed but, INMHO, you would have to go a long, long way indeed to find a better pie than those made by the Baker's Hill Pie Shop. I'm not the only one who thinks this. Ask any truckie who travels the Great Eastern Highway and you'll hear the same - and they've voted with their dollars to the point where the little local shop on the roadside has become a big cafe/shop with an even bigger driveway, plenty of tables inside and out, open seven days a week from 7am ... and the pies are still as good as ever.
Golden crusted pies with light flaky pastry and a wide variety of top quality fillings set the benchmark here, but there's also fat pasties stuffed with a peppery mix of meat and vegetables that any Cornishman would recognize as the real thing and quiches that a Frenchman would say were just as good as Maman's any day. Looking for something sweet to follow? The vanilla slices are legendary. Whether you're eating in or buying something to take away ( a picnic maybe up on nearby Bobbokine Hill when the wildflowers are in bloom, or a family size pie to take back to Perth for dinner tonight)) you will not be disappointed. Ettamogah Pub in Cunderdin by aramat There are several Ettamogah Pubs around Australia. The pubs are the adaptation of one created in an old Australian cartoon series. The bar is filled with memorabilia and there are all the features of the strip including crows with boots on, a car on the roof, caricatures of the strip characters, etc. The whole thing just looks so silly :-). by keeweechic A wonderful 4 and a half acre property right on the Swan River and ideal for a Sunday lunch or for special occasions such as weddings or private functions. The history of this property has developed since around the early1800’s although over the years original buildings were improved and added to. The reception centre was built in 1835 and it has its own lovely gardens and traditional gazebo. There is a fabulous 4 story cascading waterfall which is the largest man-made waterfall. You can walk underneath the falling waters. Aside from the floating jetty, there is also a 50 m jarrah walkway. Three terraces have five grand staircases with sandstone and limestone balustrading create a feeling of some of the grand homes and palaces of Europe. The Caversham House restaurant is open for ala carte lunches from Wed to Sunday 11.30am – 3.00pm either inside or outside under 100 yr old Wisteria. They also have live music every Sunday at lunch from 12.00noon to 2.30pm. There are also package menu deals to choose from. A box of the freshest fish in a feather-light crisp batter served with a pile of crunchy golden chips and a big wedge of lemon - all washed down with a glass of good dry white wine as you sit by the water's edge with a great view. What more could you ask for on a fine sunny day - winter or summer? Simple food cooked well is one of life's great pleasures Leave a Comment Theme: SeafoodPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Dolphin Quays, MandurahPhone: 9534 9444Directions: Click for a map

The front entrance by iandsmith If you'll just excuse me, I have to reach for my handkerchief to soak up the drool while I reminisce over the indulgent hour plus we spent on the balcony overlooking the spacious gardens below the back porch, all the time eating food that brings to mind only one word. Encore! Not only was the food great, it was in Albany's most historical residence, the old Government Farm with buildings dating back to 1836. Not old by European and Asian standards, but full of character and looking the part.
The lemon cake I had was my personal best and someone at another table had a pancake with strawberries, only it was hard to see where the pancake was, so bountiful were the strawberries and cream. And, she served tea in proper pots. None of this amby-pamby one and a quarter cup crap; no, more your three large cups and I'm loving it type. by keeweechic The very popular restaurant at Cape Lavender has won numerous awards over the past few years, including 'Best Tourist Restaurant', 'Best Freestanding Cafe - Country Licenced', 'Best Licenced Casual Dining - Country', as well as the 2004 Sunday Times Award for 'Excellence in Informal Dining'. The crowd on the weekend was certainly testament to these achievements. Their menu is a delicate blend of light temptations to refined contentment. You should sample their freshly made lavender scones with fresh jam and double whipped cream. by keeweechic The local tavern is an Irish pub which overlooks the Jarrah forest. The provide good old fashioned hospitality as what you would expect from an Irish Pub. You can dine in or alfresco in the beer garden. For all the die hards, Guinness is on tap. A good choice for lunch or dinner. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalAddress: Jarrahdale Road, Jarrahdale

by keeweechic The Witches Cauldron is right on busy Rokeby Road in the heart of Subiaco. The restaurant has become famous for the Garlic Prawns which comes sizzling to your table. They also have an excellent choice of other seafood and succulent steaks. Don’t forget to leave room for dessert – I hear their Sticky Date Pudding with toffee sauce is to die for. I never have any room left. Their wine list is by the glass or the bottle and they have quite an extensive range. Since 1996 the Witches Cauldron has been winning awards hand over fist for their excellence. Their prices are not cheap but well worth a special night out. by richiecdisc The Sail & Anchor in the lovely coastal town of Fremantle is just one more reason to make a vist to this pleasant suburb of Perth. They brew perhaps the best beer in Australia, right up there with Coopers of Adelaide. They also serve 'real' ale.
