Spices On Ocean: Finally, a decent Indian restaurant in W.A.
Steve-H profile photo
Steve-H 500 reviews

For those of us who like a regular curry Perth has been a big dissapointment, there are some terrible restaurants south of the city, pale watery dishes and imitations of Indian cuisine have been the only thing on offer until now.
A new restaurant opened in Rockingham and we heard good things so we booked a table and headed into town with low expectations. How wrong we were, the food here is great, easily as good as anyhing we get in London and a great view of the sea.

Capricci's is an Italian restaurant on the beachfront in Rockingham. Serves all the usual stuff, pizzas, pastas, steaks, shellfish etc

Favorite Dish: We enjoy breakfast here occassonally, generous portions of bacon and eggs on toast, with added extras as desired.
Good coffee and pots of Earl Grey tea.
It's very pleasant to sit looking out over the park to the sea, I prefer it in the morning as it can get hot outside at lunchtime. (air-con inside)

Palm Beach Deli: Possibly the best deal on ice cream in town.

4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Sitting outside palm beach deli

Deli serving take-away food (mostly things with chips) with shaded outside eating area.
Connoisseur ice cream at reasonable prices.
Also sells sweets, newspapers and fishing supplies.
I have been told that the scriptwriter for Neighbours worked here as a teenager and modelled the deli in neighbours on it.

Favorite Dish: Fisherman's basket- 2 small pieces of fresh fish, 2 calamari rings, 2 battered crab sticks, 2 butterfly prawns, 1 battered scallop and lots of hot chips (french fries). Plenty to share between 2 if you don't want a large portion. Eat there or take it to Rotary Park just down the road.

UPDATE 2009-This place no longer exists. It has given way to beachfront apartments.

Appears very ordinary but has a large menu.

This is a very ordinary looking fish and chip shop in Safety Bay, but has a large menu. Eight types of fish as well as shellfish, burgers, sausage etc, including mushy peas and Deep fried Mars Bars or Cherry Ripe in batter.

If you don't phone your order through first, you will have to wait while it's being cooked, but there's seats and magazines to read.

Prices are average for an out-of-town chip shop. A fisherman's basket and a 1/2 portion of fish and chips was about $15au and was more than we could eat between two us. It was all excellently cooked. You'll get a lot of salt and vinegar on unless you request not to.

Open 11:30-2:00 and 4:30-8:00. closed Monday lunchtime, open all day Sunday.

Favorite Dish: Fisherman's basket (fish, prawns, calamri, mussels and chips) taken over the road to sit on the picnic bench by sea is lovely.

A pleasant cheap lunch.

This new restaurant was recommended to us for the 'lunchtime specials', prices $8:50-$11:50 au. The portions were more generous than I expected for this price.
The room was pleasantly appointed with white table cloths and waitress service.
No bar available, but BYO alcohol.
A fairly extensive menu is available including all the standard dishes.
Chef's specials include:-Szechuan beef, Crispy Skin Chicken, Sang Choy Bow, Bird's Nest, Fillet Steak in Pepper Sauce, Fillet Steak Cantonese Style, Combination Chow Kway Teow and Seafood Ho Fun/soft noodles in Egg gravy.

A home delivery service is available for orders over $30, free for orders over $50.

Open for lunch11:30-2:30
and dinner 5:00-9:30 (10:00 Friday and Saturday)

Favorite Dish: I had chicken with cashews and fried rice. As well as the chicken being very tender it included a good selection of stir-fry vegetables. It was so good, I ordered the same the second time we went.
My husband had garlic prawns the first time and Satay prwans the second time which were also very good.

Stones Throw Cafe

This restaurant is a friendly, casual and relaxed cafe but with cuisine that is everything that a good restaurant should have. We had good service with meals that were fantastic at very reasonable prices.

It's also as you might guess from the name, just a stones throw from the beautiful Rockingham foreshore from which there are plenty of other activities to indulge in.

Favorite Dish: The surf and turf was something else as it had fresh prawns in a creamy sauce topped over the the most suculent fillet steak.

The entrees were great to. Sue had yummy oysters kilpatrick while I had the tasty garlic prawns.
