Penguin Island would be one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Rockingham area. A 5 minute ferry ride from Shoalwater or a nice cool walk across the channel on a warm summer's day and you can enjoy the natural environment, the penguins and a nice picnic and a swim.

I was fascinated by these long grain thingys that ran right out for miles. Western Australia is well known for it's huge exports. Here's a nice shot of the Shipping grain terminal through the foreshore trees.

Rockingham is a great day trip if you have kids....so much to do. My kids had a lovely time and of course met a new friend (Nezz's daughter). The foreshore is full of beautiful shady trees to picnic under. And of course this is a child's paradise!! Janine couldn't resist climbing one :o)

The beach in Rockingham is very long and what better way to see it all than to jump on one of these little trains. We didn't bother because we were too busy talking, eating and drinking lol, but the people who were riding on it looked like they were having fun.

A beachside holiday place is not complete without the ice cream van :o) When I was young there were a stack of Mr Whippy Vans with the tell tale tune - Greensleaves haha. Anyway, an ice cream van (called Mr Wippo haha) pulled up not far from our picnic spot and of course the kids couldn't resist :o)

Of course we had to go in for a dip!! The water is very calm and nice and easy to swim in. I swam Jesse on my back out to the pontoon. Gee I'm unfit haha....got about a metre from the steps and I felt like I was sinking under Jesse's weight. Of course it may have had a little to do with all the food and drink I had too :o) But it was definately fun jumping and diving off the pontoon!!
