The colours changed in the great Aussie outback as we pushed on towards our destination. We were hoping to arrive at Southern Cross which is only about 23k's from our final destination, Yellowdine Lake.
Once that sun starts going down you can't slow down time! :o) So we had to cut our journey short and look for a place to stay in Merredin. Driving in the outback in Australia is down right dangerous after sunset because that is when the kangaroos come out and believe me.... if they don't cause a major accident and cause serious injury to you... they will at least write off your car.
Anyway, minutes before we decided to end our journey for the day I took a couple of shots of the sunset through the side mirror. Not the best...but they will do ;o)

Well our trip was definately worth while. The whole lake was surrounded with quartz crystals. We were gobsmacked!
It was fun using our picks, prying out interesting specimens and vying for the best rock :o)
We will definately come here again..... and for those of you that are reading this tip, check out my travelogues for the full story.
Directions to the lake are on the web link below. The thing that they forgot to mention is that the right hand turn is Yellowdine Road and is located right next to the Yellowdine Service Station.
