Skydive the beach - Jurien Bay

by Arial_27

We had an amazing experience skydiving here. Its one of the only (possibly the only) place in Western Australia where you can skydive, so its a little more pricey than doing it on the east coast. The view however, was spectacular with the turquoise water coastline and one unique feature I thought was that we got to land on the sandy white beach which isn't something other places do.The staff was friendly, and my instructor cracked a lot of jokes which eased the tension for me since I was a little nervous. All in all a great day, I'd recommend this to anyone!

Monkey Mia

by Arial_27

Monkey Mia isn't a beach town, like we thought, but a resort that you drive right into from the road leading to it. You have a choice between renting a room there, camping or staying in your campervan. It cost roughly $30/night to camp there. The dolphin interaction happens 3 times a day, the first starting at 7am and the last one ending around noon. Make sure you wake up early to get out there because they never do the interactions after 12 even if the dolphins were to show up late. The "interaction" isn't as intimate as the posters make it seem, so don't get your hopes up! No one is allowed to touch the dolphins and only a few people from each crowd (normally children) will be chosen to give a few fish to them, and even then there is no padding or touching allowed. this is because dolphins over the years have contracted colds and other viruses from the hundreds of hands that used to...

The Pinnacles

by Arial_27

The Pinnacles are located in Nambung national park, about a 2.5 hour drive north of Perth. It can take anywhere from an hour to 3 hours to get through the entire park, depending on how thouroughly you want to explore the rocks, take pictures with them, etc. These rocks were almost unknown to Australians until the 1960s, and now they receive about 250,000 visitors every year. Cost to get in is about $6/person (we paid $11 for a vehicle with 2 people.) There is a museum to look through and learn from ahead of time, as well as a gift shop. We went towards the end of the day, close to sunset and the park was fairly empty. The pinnacles are beautiful and well worth a visit.

Crocasaurus Cove

by Arial_27

Crocasaurus Cove is a crocodile zoo, aquarium museum and information centre located right downtown in Darwin. They have crocodile feeding times, opportunities to hold a baby croc and feed baby crocodiles included in park admission, and for extra there's the 'cage of death' where you're in a glass box that is lowered into the crodocile tank with live crocs. We had a great day here and would recommend it, its central and only $29 to get in (in 2011.) The cage of death is an extra $70, but keep in mind that the crocs may not be as interested in you as you'd hope they'd be. I had this vision of them swimming up and trying to bite through the glass, but instead they just sat there and ignored us. It probably depends on the time of day and how hungry they are. Still, I dont regret doing it, how many people can say they've swam with real crocodiles right? ;) Just dont have your hopes yet. You...

Dreamworld

by Arial_27

Dreamworld is located about an hour south of Brisbane. It opens at 10 and closes at 5. Admission is $79.99 for an adult (as of 2011) and for an extra $20 you can have access to the waterpark as well. There are about 7 rides there that are considered 'thrill rides,' I found 2 of them to be pretty scary! There are plenty of kids rides and an IMAX theatre, and food on the premises. We had a great day here, well recommended to anyone who enjoys theme parks.

Floriade

by iandsmith

Floriade is a flower show in Canberra. Frankly, if you're in Australia in late September/early October, I recommend you add it to your itinerary. It's arguably the best free show in Australia and one of the world's best free garden displays.Plants are carefully doctored so that they bloom at the correct time and it all happens by Lake Burley Griffin in the ACT. It's hugely popular with Asians and Indians and is Canberra's biggest annual attraction.I've made the pilgrimage several times and each year is different because they theme the display every year so you never see the same thing twice. They've had aboriginal themes, food themes, cultural themes etc. etc. These photos are from the year it was food themed. Bear in mind that normally this area is parkland so there are fixtures like playthings for children and sculptures that are permanent.

Aquarium

by jpud99930

A vist to the Sydney Aquarium is a must. Seeing the amazing fish that you wouldn't see on a normal basis. The tanks holding the fish are hudge. They have both freshwater and salt water fish displays and coral gardens. Viewing is spectacular with large glass walls to view the fish from.

Hiking and walking

by jpud99930

Hike and walk the Blue Mountains. When going to the Blue Mountains make sure you leave Sydney or where ever on the first train out. Make sure you have enough time. There is a train leaving back to Sydney abount 5pm from Katoomba. I'm not sure when the last leaves. If there is one. There's a few hikes in the valley and they can last up to 3-5hrs depending how fast you are. You don't want to rush the hike or walks. Take plenty of water and good shoes.

Take a trip down the Great Ocean Road

by TravelPossom

Just drive! The scenery is awesome. It is essential to rent a car, and it does take time (that country is pretty big!), but it is well worth it. We stayed on the Mornington Peninsula and then took the car ferry over the other side of the bay entrance to Queenscliff and drove from there all the way to Warrnembool (stayed over night in Port Campbell).
