Biking on Rottnest Island

by Myndo

Rottnest is the Island right in front of Perth. There are different Ferries that can take you there - just check the prices out at the harbour.Rottnest Island itself isn?t very big. There are two possibilities to get around (no cars on the island). One is the bus (around 5.50 AUS), where you can get out and in at different stops. The bus drives every full hour. The other possibility is by bike. Since the island is quite flat, the road good and you can stop and drive on whenever and wherever you want, I think it is the nicer option. Also you can really enjoy the views and have a look at the beaches and wonderful spots you come along. The drive around the island (just one main road) is about 15 km, but you can extend it at the west end (out a one-way road 4 km and back) and at a little loop in the south (1.5km). Any way it isn't too much stress to drive around the island in that one day and...

show the world to those who think the world of you

by dhaval972

Planning a trip to Australia, a country as large as the U.S., can be a bit daunting. australia's "must see" attractions of Sydney and the Great Barrier Reef to the "off the beaten track" wonders of Outback Australia.Australia is a user friendly country - no language barrier, a decimal currency, airlines and trains running on time. broken hill: Often described as a living museum, this outback city on the western edge of New South Wales has an amazing array of activities. The area has attracted some of Australia's best artists and the city abounds with galleries. The beauty of the Living Desert, a sculpture garden on a hill on the outskirts of town, will take your breath away.Kangaroo Island :This gem of an island, Australia's third largest, is conveniently located off the coast of South Australia and easily accessible from Adelaide by air or ferry. Blessed with the natural beauty of steep...

The Pinnacles - Nambung Ntl Park

by Myndo

The Pinnacles in the Nambung National Park are stone-columns standing in hundreds in a wide landscape. There are several theories how they developed, but however, they look very interesting.Surrounded by sand, which is almost the same color as the stone, it is important to wait for the right light, if you want to make really good pictures. So, if you have the time, go at sunrise or sunset (also look at the picture under the travel tips for the Pinnacles).Oh, and if you go there, beware of the annoying australian fly. I have never seen a worse species.Good Place to stay is in Cervantes, a small town close to the park.

The Taggerty Bush Settlement (Vic)

by mikegr

A genuine escape into beautiful rural Victoria. The Taggerty Bush Settlement is a genuine budget gettaway into beautiful unspoilt Victoria scenery, and a unique opportunity to get back to basics. The settlement offers various accomodations and the opportunity to interact with orphaned native wildlife which is raised back to health before being released back into the wild. I was lucky enough to be given the responsibility of looking after a spider tailed possum for a few days when I was there, and plenty of chances to get to know the (then) resident adolescent wombat - a word of warning - watch your ankles! The website gives details of an itinerary package, but I went there and hiked and biked by myself, which suited me just fine.Just a few hours by bus from Melbourne - this is a truly awesome place, and I genuinely cannot recommend it strongly enough! My one, must - visit - place in the...

Jacaranda Trees: An Explosion of Mauve in Oct/Nov

by M0B1US

During the months of October and November, the streets of Sydney (and Melbourne in December!) erupt in a vivid lilac fanfare as the city’s Jacaranda trees go into full bloom! It’s delicate trumpet shaped blossoms last for around two months at the height of the Australian Spring before carpeting the ground with a mass of colour – it is said that if one of those blossoms should fall on your head while you’re passing underneath, you will be rewarded by good fortune. I’m still waiting for mine! Its Latin name is Jacaranda mimosifolia, which is the most widely seen and admired tree of the Jacaranda family. It prefers a warm coastal climate and is prevalent as a centrepiece to gardens in Australia from Cairns to Melbourne, although it is not actually native to Australia but rather Brazil.Jacarandas are a deciduous tree, with soft graceful fern-like foliage. A perfect place to see them is at the...

Take the Ferry to Taronga Zoological Park

by Paul2001

My first ferry trip in Sydney was to the wonderful Taronga Zoo. This hardly the one of the best zoos in the world but because of setting in the middle of Sydney Harbour it should be visited as it is quite beautiful. Though the zoo is not exactly large it does have many great attributes such as a superb tiger exhibit, a very large chimpanzee exhibit, and the only kodiak bear I have ever seen in captivity. Rumour has it that Michael Jackson spent the night of his second wedding here.

Snowboarding at Snowy

by Jagsfan

I lived in Aussie for 2 years and while i was there, conquering Snowy Mountains is probably one of the most memorable places i've been. We all know Australia known for beach and coral reefs but if you happen to be there during winter, it'll be worth it to try Snowy. Snowy Mountain is also the highest mountain region in Australia, so you have a lot space to cover while you going down the hill rather than just straight path down. Make sure you and your friends set up a meeting place after your run otherwise is easy to get lost. I was worried about the snow conditions, i was expecting a man made snow that will end up to be ice but to my surprise it was powder on top. for beginners, they provide you with bunny hill to learn and for more advance boarder trust me they have a lot in stock for you. The mountains provide a lot of track for various skill level and plus the breathtaking scenery. To...

Western Australia

by didgeridorien

Western Australia occupies one third of the entire continent. The capital is Perth, which has an island in front of the coast called Rottnest Island which you can reach from Fremantle. North of Perth, you can find some amazing nature such as the Pinnacles Desert and Kalbarri National Park. On the west coast, you can visit the Ningaloo Reef, which starts from the beach, or you can go and see dolphins at Monkey Mia. Another main city in Western Australia is Broome, from where you can visit Fitzroy Crossing and Kununurra.

Victoria

by didgeridorien

Victoria is the most densely populated state, with 75% of the inhabitants living in the capital Melbourne. The northern border is the Murray River, on which the towns Echuca and Mildura lie. There is a mountain range The Grampians running through the middle of the state and starting from Geelong you can drive along The Great Ocean Road.
