by leanne_pearc

Like any country there are people more unfornate then us. There will be times when times when you will be asked for money. My advice...use your own judgement! Some people geniuly need money other people ask for money to support there drug and alcohol addictions. Remember we do have donation services to help these people such as vincent de paul, St patricks foundation so instead you might want to donate money to these services then to the people.

Sega World in Darling Harbor....

by cduffy16_48

Sega World in Darling Harbor. Its supposed to be an amusment park type place, but the day I went about half the rides were closed and it was really understaffed. The place was just a waste of time and money. When you put a virtual reality mask over ur face you would this layer of dirt and grease on your face after you take it off.

by mantel

tourist areas attract tourist prices as do most places so ask locals where the best places to shop are,if you eat at a restaurant with an obvious great location as the harbour you will help pay their rent.hang on to your bags and cameras in tourist spots, its not too bad but better to be careful than sorry.ask locals anything they are always willing to help

Cairns in general can fall...

by TashieKitten

Cairns in general can fall under this definition. Everyone is trying to book you on their eco-tour, sight seeing adventure, bungee jumping, balloon ride, train ride...if your hostel or hotel books they get a kick back. SHOP AROUND. Pick a company that will pick you up where you're staying (I'm fairly sure they all do this) and don't be surprised if they're running behind. Ask if lunch is included. Decide if you want a tour that includes many stops or just one dedicated to an area, if you have the time.

by Gwynneth

One of the biggest things I've heard people say about coming to Australia is that they didn't come and holiday long enough ... they weren't prepared for the vast open spaces... the alluring night skies filled with a billion stars ... the comospolitan easy going lifestyle ... or the friendliness of the people that make Australia their home... when you come to visit us, make sure you have plenty of time... after all, we are the largest Island in the world and there is so much to see and enjoy.

by nawitt

Puffing Billy is the biggest tourist trap unless you have small children. My friends and I went and it was only supposed to take about 2 hours round trip and it took us more like four! The area is a beautiful place, do not get me wrong- but there has to be a better way to see it than by taking Puffing Billy slowly up the mountain!!!

It may seem a little odd for me to recommend Oz experience yet also include it as a tourist trap but i realise that oz experience is not for everyone. On the down side if your short on time oz experience is proabably not the best way to travel because the buses do not leave that frequently and they tend to take ages to get to and from their destinations (i.e. they take the scenic route). Also the overnight stops are fixed so even if you don't want to stay somewhere basically you have to! This can be a little annoying if you decided to get off somewhere along route and then have to make an overnight stop only a little further up the road. However on the up side if your a travelling alone it a sure fire way of making friends very quickly. It also takes the hasstle of organising a route and finding good places to stay.

by Jo_katz

I met a lot of people in Byron Bay who started a trip around Australia, left Sydney and got no further than Byron Bay. Bryon is a nice enough little town but it's full of backpackers and there is so much more to Australia than this. If you want to learn to surf i hear this is a great place to do it and proably a nicer place to stay than Surfers Paradise a little further up the caost. But don't get sucked in, pay the place a visit but a visit is all its worth.

by AKtravelers

The Big Lobster in Kingston, South Australia. Okay, I shouldn't defame the lobster itself -- it's as gorgeous a 56-foot-tall crustacean you'll ever see. However, we did the whole Big Lobster experience, including the mediocre baked lobster in the adjacent restaurant ($AUS 40 a piece) and the very average Big Lobster hotel. Sure, it wasn't horrible, but we could have done better.

The biggest tourist trap I...

by Venturingnow

The biggest tourist trap I found in Australia was the last night of my trip at the Hard Rock Sydney. Of course this happens at every Hard Rock, but the stuff there, like hats and t-shirts were soooo expensive, try to control yourself, and don't go overboard! I bought a shirt and a hat for my brother, cost me $45 bucks, and the fu**er lost the things a month or two later. Also, the Sega World amusement thing was a little tacky and expensive, it was fun for a night though, watch your spending.
