The Tourist booths in Cairns.....

by jennykp

The Tourist booths in Cairns.. Beware. Use them as information only, until you are sure of what you want to do. Its easy to get overwhelmed by all the things to do in Cairns or around Cairns. These tour booths ( all along Esplanade) are everywhere, and they try and get you to sign up for something. They require a deposit down, and you don't even get it back if you decide to change you mind later. They have certain companies they push, and they will tell you these are the best, even when they aren't. ADVICE: Use them as information only, unless you are absolutely sure you want to book a certain tour with a certain company. You can call and make the reservation for most if not all tours WITHOUT having to put a deposit down.

I went to Byron Bay, I heard that place is great for having fun at night. But there's nothing happen after midnight! Dunno because I was there on weekday? Or not in summer? The only place open that time was Great Northern.

by Gardenhead

THE OZ EXPERIENCE!!! When you are travelling in Australia you meet alot of people. There is really no need to get mustered like a sheep. Travel on your own or with friends is my recommendation. Tour companys like the oz experience really just show you what everyone else has seen. Still lots of people tend to go with them.

Paradise Beach on the Gold...

by Grete

Paradise Beach on the Gold Coast. We stopped there for the day on our way from Byron Bay to Brisbane. Horrid place - tall buildings along the beach (I presume they were holiday flats) blocking the view of the ocean. Really touristy in every sense of the word. So we strolled around and had lunch on Hard Rock Cafe and got on the first bus out of there.

by Shar

Where you get off the train is not normally the city heart. And more to the point, our cities are probably our ugliest parts. Get a car and drive to see the real Qld. And don't do the tourist bus thing. Unless you are over 60 of course. Boooring and they go to the dullest of places.

The pub in Daly Waters can be a trap, because you will like to stay there for several days! Try the menu "Beef and Barra". It is wonderful.

The Gold Coast is certainly a trap. - On the other hand, if an Australian combination of 'Miami Beach' and 'Las Vegas' is what you're looking for, enjoy!
