If you plan to buy opals while in Australia, my advice would be to avoid the cities. In small country towns and at the opal fields themselves the prices are much cheaper.

Ayers Rock... I climbed it, together with busloads of other tourists. Makes you feel very unimportant, especially after the weeks of soltitude we had before.

Take a ride on a pedicab. Why? Because you may meet a driver like me. Yes! That's right! This was my job. I made a fortune doing this, and had a very sociable time doing so.

Hey many of those souvenir goods were made elsewhere (not in Australia!)...
A lot of thing are quite 'kitsch' in Australia...such as Big Pineapple or Big Banana on the road Brisbane-Sydney.....Some attractions are really expensive for what they offer.
Be careful of guys like this.They bite!
