AirNewZealand was a great airline...and i recommend it to everybody....good cost...good meal...good job of taking care of you.....and of course very friendly people. :)Train is a great way to go places....but if your out in the country like aways from Sydney the capatal....use a bus very cheap....great way to get around. NEVER GET A TAXI WHEREVER YOU GO NO MATTER WHAT COUNTRY YOUR IN....ITS CRAZY TO GO IN A TAXI THEY KILL YOU WITH COST....so stick with Train and Bus...:)

by linrain

Flights on Qantas or Air New Zealand are best. I have traveled there by ship. Fares from June thru August, their winter, are lowest. In Sydney, go for a chauffeur driven tour of the town and surrounds in vintage Cadillac convertibles. Ours was a pink, '56, named Maybelline, driven by an Aussie-Italian Elvis! In Melbourne you can take a ride to the Great Ocean Road in a classic Jaguar. Otherwise, take bus tours or train. Driving is last choice--too much to occupy the driver, like kangaroos and other cars on the left side of the road.

The best way to get to...

by mocca

The best way to get to Australia is to fly in, no other way to do it unless you come on a boat. The busses are great to get from city tocity, or to get anywhere. From great distances the plane is the first choice, and the few railroads have excellent rides, which you should take so you can watch the view.

by RSM79

Plane: Malaysian Airlines is AMAZING. Not only do you have a remote control to watch your personal tv, but you also are given the best airline food.WORD OF WISDOM: Try to use your international flight to get you around Australia at no extra cost. For example, Malaysian airline flies from Cairns to Darwin and then to Malaysia. You can hop off the plane in Darwin and stay a couple of days. Or, Malaysian also does a Sydney to Melbourne flight and then out to Malaysia. Using the plane like this can save you $ and time.Bus: Along the east coast, your options are Premier, Greyhound or McCaferty's (spelling?). I took Premier. It is the cheapest. The only drawback is the trip from Noosa to Rockhampton and from Rockhampton to Airlie Beach. You have to travel at some g-d forsaken hour - like 3am. It is kind of yucky. Also, make sure you call the bus line a good day or two in adavnce inorder to get...

probably with the plane to Sydney.look out for peolpe in backpacker hostels. There are people, who own a car and would like to share fuel.If you plan to stay more than 3 months for traveling, I would recommend buying a car or van.You need a car to see real good spots.bus and train is too expensive and unflexible. So take care and wath out for the spiders ;-)

If you have a far bit of money, why not cruise around Australia in stlye. cruises only operate to Australia once a year. Stopping at the main capitals you will be able to see everything.I went on a cruise and it really is a holiday above the rest, it is something different and it really is the meaning of a holiday. - to escape from everyone.

By air or if you have money - world cruisesTo get around the states the best way is air - QANTAS and Ansett. It is fairly cheap. Trains are also an option but are slow and not like Europe. However the interstate trains are good. If you are exploring the eastern coast then you merley have to catch buses and trains to get around.

by cduffy16_48

I flew from Philadelphia to LA, then from LA to Tahiti, then from Tahiti to Auckland, then finally from Auckland to Sydney. It took about 5 days to get there only because I stayed in Tahiti for 3 days. (When do you ever get a chance to stay in Tahiti?)My family and I rented a car and used the public transportation. If you are from the US like I am then driving will be difficult because they DRIVE ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD!! But after aabout a week i got used to it. The public transportation is very clean, efficient, and just nice. Normally when you think of public trans. you think of bums going to the bathroom in the corner of the bus or strange people riding it, but NOT in australia. I was like 'whoa' this is public trans? Very nice.
