Major flights to Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, or Cairns. I flew by Qantas from Jakarta.Australia is huge! If u short in time, better fly. Many domestic flights u can choose. Purchase a pass from ur country (Boomerang Pass by Qantas) that allows to fly minimum 2 coupons anywhere with a very good price! If u have plenty of time, just go around by bus. U can also purchase a bus pass that allows u to jump on and off any city with 3 - 6 months validity, ie. Greyhound.
We had booked a 'round the world' ticket which made things so easy. You just decide where you want to make stopovers and then look which airlines in which combination will get you there. If you start off going east you have to continue going east until you get home .... no going back and forwards.We hired cars for shorter distances and when staying in one area, makes life easier than with public transport.We flew from Sydney to Perth and from Perth to ALice SPrings because of the time factor.
I have quite a few people emailed me in the past asking advice about cheap DOMESTIC plane tickets. Here are some I can suggest: If you're coming from overseas and would like to obtain domestic air passes, enquire with your travel agent. For Australia, it's called 'BOOMERANG PASSES ON QANTAS' or 'VISIT AUSTRALIA ON ANSETT' Otherwise, try any of these Australian domestic airlines. Air traffic is dominated by big boys - Qantas and Ansett but two new airlines have given them real competiton which means the lower price will finally pass on to consumers. Try these airlines:QANTAS ANSETTVIRGIN BLUEIMPULSE
There are domestic flight between Sydney/Melbourne and Hobart/Launceston regularly.Also you can travel by sea from Melbourne to Devonport. It takes about 15 hours.Except the Abt Wilderness Railway , a historic railway driven by steam power engine, runs from Queenstown and Regatta Point, there is no passenger trains in Tasmania. Rent a car or campervan is the best way to explore Tasmania.
Unless you have a lot of time, air is the only way to get to Australia. I suggest flying QANTAS or Air New Zealand if you can. They have excellent service and give you a brief taste of Australia and New Zealand before you arrive.Australia is a large country (6th largest in the world). The distances between cities can be far so I recommend flying when possible if your schedule is tight. If time permits, however, train travel is an excellent way to relax and view the countryside.
Plane is by far the easiest way, though relative of ours are adventurous sailors and are on their way there right now.Australia is so large and diverse that getting from major city to major city is easiest by plane. Within a location, public transit, organized tour or a car will be the choice depending on what you plan to do in the region.Some regions (offshore) will be best accessed by boat/ferry.Biking in some areas (like wine country) would be very pleasurable.
Obviously by plane since it is the biggest island on the planet! Most of the time, when I travelled within Australia, I used Bus Australia or Grey Hound. It has months pass like Eurail. So depends on your need you can choose the bus pass which I think is the cheapest way to see Australia.
Drive (five hours) or fly (one hour by Fokker) from Perth to Geraldton. Continue north to the small township of Northampton. A few miles beyond the town, turn left off the highway and follow the signs to Hutt River.
By plane ofcourse.Rent a car and drive around. It is a pleasant country to drive in. In the outback it is very boaring though. For kilometers there is nothing on your road. No other cars in sight, but suddenly there is the man with the stop sign. Where does he come from ? And why is he there? Probably there is someone working on the road ahead.
