In all states and territories there are hefty fines for speeding. Best not to do it, take your time and enjoy the country and most importantly get there safe and well.

Anytime i hire a car in Australia i go with Europcar, comparable to other companies and i've always come away happy with their service.
A good way to experience Melbourne is by taking one of the many trolleys. Try the free city line that makes the rounds around the city center.

Watch out for these giant trucks when driving through the desert...

Of course, you could take a ship all the way, if you wanted to take forever. I've only ever flown Qantas...it's a fantastic airline.
Jump on a ferry, any ferry at Circle Quay... and just cruise around... by far the best way to see this beautiful city...

I wasn't lucky enough to go on a cruise...
