Inviting blue sea. by colin_bramso The sea is beautifully blue and very inviting, especially on a hot day. But it can be dangerous. Too many tourists get into trouble and too many drown. Swim on beaches patrolled by lifeguards, swim between the red and yellow flags, because the lifeguards watch carefully over that area and do as the lifeguards tell you. They are highly trained local people and they know the water, know where the dangerous riptides are. Leave a Comment

by jackiehob Tropical regions are found in Queensland Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef. It is a wonderful area, even with the dangers of crocodiles, the dreadly box jellyfish, and sharks. The box jellyfish, which has enough poison to kill three adults, is usually present in Queensland's northern coastal waters between the months of October and May. Always ask the locals about the state of the coastal waters where you are. As for sharks, it’s always wise to check that the seas where you want to swim, snorkel or dive are safe. It sounds scary doesn't it, but it is most unlikely that you will see a shark or jellyfish, just really unlucky if you do. Leave a Comment

In summer, watch out for notices on the beaches for 'Stingers'. They are jellyfish which get blown into shore by strong winds...and the sting is very painful. For people with allergies, they can be very dangerous, even fatal. Watch out for the signs. Leave a Comment

Most visits to Australia are trouble-free, but travellers in major urban areas should exercise caution at all times, especially when alone. Travellers should keep to the main streets and be vigilant when withdrawing money from cash machines. Travellers should also exercise caution in terms of personal safety while travelling on all forms of public transport. Leave a Comment

Travellers should not hitchhike or travel alone after dark. Exercise common sense when in remote or unfamiliar surroundings. Seek and follow advice from local authorities. Leave a Comment

When travelling to remote tourist areas of the outback, it is essential to leave route details and expected time of return with the relevant local tourist authorities or police. Ensure that notification is given of your return. Leave a Comment

by Saret97 Do not underestimate the heat and sun. Drink water even if you don't feel like it's necessary. Drive carefully in the outback. I've seen quite some serious accidents. Driving gravel or sandy roads for hours and hours makes you loose your concentration at moments you can't afford it. Also be prepared for more than one flat tire. Take at least 10 liters of water per person with you in case you have to wait for 24 hours for help. Leave a Comment

My buddy lost his travel wallet within two minutes in Kings Cross (Sydney). Watch your stuff. But don't avoid Sydney or Kings Cross. Leave a Comment

The Outback has bugs. Survivor was a joke. There is no way those people would have survived on their own in the outback. Too many poisonous spiders, snakes, etc. And they would never have been able to hold a conversation without swatting a fly every few minutes. Leave a Comment

by moomoos That's Florence Falls at Litchfield Park. It's beautiful. It's all swimming and picnic in places like this, but be careful. A week after i was there, some tourist guy had cramps while swimming in the Florence Falls pool and drowned. Most of the springs and falls are very deep, and this guy got sucked in by the undercurrent, and his body was found curled up. It's a sad story, but it is one which has to be told. The other warning is crocs. Loads of them around. Do not be part of their lunch. :) Leave a Comment
