 | Cook Islands Nightlife | Tips 1 - 10 of 10 | | Friday is the big party night on Rarotonga, and loads of hotels & guesthouses arrange popular "pub crawls" where you're taken by minibus on a tour of some of the island's pubs. The pub crawls are a fun, hectic way of testing out the island's pubs, and if you don't want to take part in a pub crawl you'll probably run into the pub crawlers on Friday night anyway - it's a quite weird experience to be sitting in a relatively quiet pub, sipping a drink, when suddenly a bus load of singing, shouting tourists come stumbling in, party hard for half an hour before taking off again..:o) The pubs close at 2 am, so even after a night of dancing, singing & countless bottles of Cook's Lager you'll get up in time to visit the Punanga Nui Cultural Market early Saturday morning. Don't miss out on partying with the Aussies & Kiwis, if you want to have a hilarious time, those guys are the most fun! The island has a Pub Crawl every Friday night, where buses pick up tourists and locals to make the rounds of all the wildest dancing and drinking establishments on Rarotonga. But beware, they may make you sing, just when you get tanked up enough to try it. My buddy Darlene & I made them regret asking us, with a hearty round of "99 Bottles Of Beer".
Just don't go barefoot. Oh, and don't miss the buss when it leaves! Leave a Comment Theme: Nightclub

There is nightlife in the big hotels, but those are for the tourist, with all the dancing shows. In Avarua, the capital of Rarotonga and the cook islands, there are a few nice bars where you can go listen to music and try to dance, because after you have seen the cook islanders dance, you know you can't!! The island nights on Rarotonga at 'the staircase' and 'banana court' are good for a cultural night and a few beers! On Aitutaki, 'Ralphies' is good for a beer and meeting some locals or try Crusher bar(i think, the only 2 bars on the island). On Atiu..let me know if you find a bar!!!! A good night out for me is to take in one of the Island Night BBQ's or a traditional Polynesian feast (which is known as a umukai and involves baking food in an underground oven) followed by a dance show. Most of the major Hotels have these Island Nights twice a week. Book ahead as they fill fast. THIS PICTURE: Island Night at Manuai Beach Hotel Leave a Comment Theme: Other

The best way to enjoy the nightlife of Raratonga is to join in on the Nightlife tour from the Edgewater Resort. Mac and co. will make this a night to remember. It starts out low key and just gets better as the night goes on.
Anything goes as long as clothes are worn. Leave a Comment Theme: Live Music

You must go on the "Island Pub Crawl" the bus takes you to the golf course and several local pubs. You get to mix and mingle with the locals. It is quite a fun experience.
No hats in the Legion or at the Golf Course. Leave a Comment Theme: Live Music

Island nights are available most nights at several locations around the island. The one pictured is at Samade's. They had plenty of food and and lots of dancer's, singing and drums. You must take in at least one island night during your stay. Low end or high end you will have a good time.
No coats, ties, or shoes required. Leave a Comment Theme: Family Spot

you book yourself on the pubcrawl buses usually at the main hotels(Edgewater/Rarotongan, etc,,), and you find yourself at 6 p.m in a bus full of all kinds of people,..2 hours later, theyre your best buddies and the 30 minute stops at the various pubs are all a playful blur...and youve lost your shoes and is ladden with sweet and sweat smelling flowers/lei's...ahhh, it's a great nite ,...if you can remember a day later!!
