Samade's: Island Nights

by rehabber

Island nights are available most nights at several locations around the island. The one pictured is at Samade's. They had plenty of food and and lots of dancer's, singing and drums. You must take in at least one island night during your stay. Low end or high end you will have a good time. No coats, ties, or shoes required.

This little one stole the show.
The Friday Night Island Pub Crawl: Drinkin' Down Under

by catalysta

Don't miss out on partying with the Aussies & Kiwis, if you want to have a hilarious time, those guys are the most fun! The island has a Pub Crawl every Friday night, where buses pick up tourists and locals to make the rounds of all the wildest dancing and drinking establishments on Rarotonga. But beware, they may make you sing, just when you get tanked up enough to try it. My buddy Darlene & I made them regret asking us, with a hearty round of "99 Bottles Of Beer". Just don't go barefoot. Oh, and don't miss the buss when it leaves!

Island Pub Crawl

You must go on the "Island Pub Crawl" the bus takes you to the golf course and several local pubs. You get to mix and mingle with the locals. It is quite a fun experience. No hats in the Legion or at the Golf Course.

The best way to enjoy the nightlife of Raratonga is to join in on the Nightlife tour from the Edgewater Resort. Mac and co. will make this a night to remember. It starts out low key and just gets better as the night goes on. Anything goes as long as clothes are worn.

There is nightlife in the big hotels, but those are for the tourist, with all the dancing shows. In Avarua, the capital of Rarotonga and the cook islands, there are a few nice bars where you can go listen to music and try to dance, because after you have seen the cook islanders dance, you know you can't!!

A good night out for me is to take in one of the Island Night BBQ's or a traditional Polynesian feast (which is known as a umukai and involves baking food in an underground oven) followed by a dance show. Most of the major Hotels have these Island Nights twice a week. Book ahead as they fill fast. THIS PICTURE: Island Night at Manuai Beach Hotel

The island nights on Rarotonga at 'the staircase' and 'banana court' are good for a cultural night and a few beers! On Aitutaki, 'Ralphies' is good for a beer and meeting some locals or try Crusher bar(i think, the only 2 bars on the island). On Atiu..let me know if you find a bar!!!!Picture : Beach on One Foot island
