Enjoying life at Raro's beaches by FletteMette Shorts & sandals will do for most of your stay in the Cooks - but if you plan on going to one of the many churches on Raro to enjoy the fabulous singing, bring a nice dress/pair of pants, as the islanders dress up to go to church. In the winter months of June - August the evenings might be a bit chilly - bring a sweater.
Bring lots of sun tan lotion & sun block!! The sun is quite intense, and you'll need a higher SPF than you normally use. You will of course find sun tan lotion in the island's shops, but it'll be quite expensive - and you might not find your preferred brand.
If you're a keen snorkeller (and if you're not, you will be after snorkelling in the amazing lagoons of the Cooks...:-) you should consider bringing your own snorkelling gear or buying a snorkel & mask at the Dive Shop in Avarua, as the quality of rented gear can be quite disappointing. It's also a good idea to bring an old t-shirt to wear whilst snorkelling - to avoid sun burn. Wear reef shoes when wading, as there are some poisonous stonefish in the lagoons. Leave a Comment

T-shirts, sandles, shorts, and bathing suits are pretty much what you'll need. Beach wear is not appropriate in town but dressing is casual. A light dress shirt for men and summer dresses for women are nice for the evening. A light wrap or long sleeve sweater would generally be enough for any evening but, as I've said before, it does rain in the Cook Islands so you MIGHT want to take something for the rain. I never have because it's so warm and getting wet is just part of being there. I've learned that leather shoes/sandals are not particularly practical so like the locals, I generally wear plastic flip flops everywear. Also, only breathable fabrics!!! Cotton, cotton, cotton.
If you're staying anywhere inland especially near any taro patches, mosquito repellent is a must. They can be very annoying. And remember, anything you forget at home (except Rx medications) can be bought on Rarotonga.
The snorkelling is incredible in the lagoon especially at the "Fruits of Rarotonga" on the south side of the island so bring snorkeling gear if you have it. If not, consider buying some before you go. You CAN rent snorkeling gear there but I never have so can't comment on the price or quality. I just take my own.
If you're travelling from North America, you will need adapters for any of your electronic equipment such as hair dryers, computers, etc.

...you should bring a pink handbag made of smoothest fake velvet. It'll help you look like none of the locals and should thus not be forgotten. Remember: Locals are the cooks and not the cooked! If you look anything like them, you'll spend a dead boring time there!
Bring some organic clothes as these will have a better taste after being cooked.
Something against burns might be useful... But don't let it ruin your own personal flavour!
Engage a local to take pics of your cooking ceremony. They will be eager to do that!
Well, a camping cooker doesn't really get you hot enough. Leave it at home!
Furthermore, the following is important to know: Cook Islanders are very easily stimulated to cook you if you are one of the following: a) a pink, gay, naked hare with incredibly blue eyes who is called "Pimmelhase" due to his enormously large P. b) a small fluffy sheep demonstrating against being cooked c) a smart-alec smurf with glasses that were modern only in 1957 (between 24th of June, 7.03am, and 27th of August, 8.29pm) For the ultimate cooking experience dress as on the pictures! by Lonecougar Along with your usual luggage that you take I suggest you pack a backpack so you can use while touring the Island. Also give's you extra space when returning with the things you picked up along the way.
You don't need much cloths on this trip. I spent 2 weeks in swim shorts and a light t-shirt. Bring sandals, a pair of pants if you plan on going to church and a dress shirt. You can bring an old pair of runners to use when walking on the reef. Or you can buy them at the dive shop(not an old pair of runners). A hat is recommened for those who have a problem with the sun.
Bring lots of sun tan oil. In the 20 range. The sun is very intense. Skin moisterizer is also a must if your sun tanning on the beach. Make sure to bring your own supply of prescription drugs as you may not be able to purchase them in the Islands. (Keep in original containers for customs reasons. Some people say bring mosquito repellent but I never had a problem.
When I pulled my Minolta X-Gm camara out of my suitcase I noticed it was covererd in moisture. It did not work. So I had to buy a new camera as there is no repair shops on the Island.Film and battaries are available, as well as developing.
When cooling off on your scooter be sure to wear a shirt. Your shoulder will burn very fast. I brought my own mask and snorkles but you can rent if you like.
Electricity is 240 volts. Most hotels will supply a converter if needed. THIS PICTURE: A cat sitting atop a pig inclosuer on the inner circle road Ava Metua (Great road of Toi) Hope you have enjoyed reading this web page about the Cook Islands. Leave a Comment

You really don't need a lot of clothes. Dinner out is pretty casual and a swim suit takes care of most days. Sandels a running shoes for walks did me just fine.
You can get everything you need in Rarotonga. Sun tan lotion was about the same price as Canada when you do the conversion. You don't need to take you much
It take lots of digital memory. There are is some lovely scenery.
Reef shoes are great...there is so much coral on the beach .
