exspecially when you are motorized with a scooter everything is available
I recommend
- Vaima (very romantic, tables in the sand)- seafood
- Trader Jack (in Avarua) - seafood

All those combinations of the pac rim (sushi meets cajun and so on)

Samade's sits right on Aitutaki lagoon. Couldn't be any closer to the water. Casual? Any more laid back and you'll fall into the lagoon. Which means you might sometimes wait a little longer than you think you should for your order to appear.

The restaurant is open on all sides, affording breathtaking views of the famous lagoon. Local food, wraps, sandwiches, etc during the day. Each week they also take a turn at Island Night when it's overrun by a tamure dance and drum troupe, and a local buffet spread is put on.

Cool contemporary Pacific music always blares from the speakers and the staff are happy to show you the CD covers so you can go and hunt it down for yourself back in Raro.

Nothing especially. Just feels right.

The setting - a smallish waterfront house with extensive covered verandahs and some outside tables in a beachside garden - is spectacular, if a little overblown (spotlights on palm trees seem a little gratuitous and slightly spoil the sea view) and the waiting staff are pleasant and attentive.

The food, on the other hand, is - contrary to past reviews - decidedly ordinary at best and actively unpleasant at worst. Even allowing for the difficulties of obtaining some ingredients on Rarotonga, there's no excuse for using obviously defrosted fish a few kilometres from an active fishing port, particularly when pricing at the higher end. Mains, entrees and desserts were almost all mundane and unimaginative.

This was the best food I had on the cook islands. They have only a few tables so you had better book. Everyday they do a selection of freahs pastas and sauses, there is not a big selection but its all great quality and just like you would get in Italy. They also do a few a bruschetta starter and usually some sort of dessert. You sit in an "room" that has a roof but no walls and this allows the breeze to cool you.
Be warned this is not a fancy restaurent, no table cloths or crystal glasses and the choice is small but the quality of the food is amazing. Its also good value, a main course for less than $20 NZ.

Josie's for the best burger on

Josie's is only open for breakfast and lunch. If you want a slow breakfast where you talk with other visitors and locals get your eggs here. This is also the place for the best burger on the island. Get it to go and eat on the beach.

This tastes like a burger you would cook at home and come with lettuce and tomato. She is fussy about what she puts on her burgers and she come out with an exceptional product. Good burgers are hard to find.
