Must do a day trip to...

by johnholden

Must do a day trip to Aitutaki. Don't stay, just visit for the day. Over night can cost $750 for a deluxe grass shack, which you can't leave after sun down because of the mosquito's. During the day, we couldn't wait to get there. While there, we never wanted the day to end. As it started to get a little darker at dusk, we couldn't leave fast enough !!!

Rarotonga : Cross island...

by littlebush

Rarotonga : Cross island trek. This is a 12km trek right through the centre of the island, from one side to the other, through heavy woodland. Its very hard work and takes about 4 1/2 hours so take a picnic and plenty of water! It is best to tell someone that you are going just incase you get lost but the island is so small that eventually you will come out at one side!...be careful if its wet as the tree roots become very slippery and dangerous. Go right up to 'the needle'(Te Rua Manga), a huge rock sticking out of the islands centre, where you can sit on a ledge overhanging a shire 'certain death' drop!(nice thought!) but the views from there are spectacular although getting there can be scary as you only have a rope and chain to hold onto to stop yourself from a gruesome death. At the end of your hot and sweaty trek, theres Wigmores waterfall, which the guide book assured me would be...

Watching Netball

I watched some school kids practice netball, which appears to be like basketball minus the backboard.

Fruits of Rarotonga

by kimchicowboy

Go snorkeling (or practice using new scuba gear as I did) at the Fruits of Rarotonga area of the lagoon. It has the best snorkeling and gets the deepest here as well.

Look at the sunset

by easterntrekker

I'm a sucker for sunsets anyway. Since we were on the east coast we had to catch it as we went to dinner in the evenings at the other sside of the island. In Rarotonga...that's minutes away!!

Church is a must on the island. The music will make you cry it is so beautiful.

PLANE VIEWS OVER THE LAGOON

The view of the languid waters of the lagoon with white beached motus sprinkled about the coralled fringes is one that will stay with you for many years.

BEACHES - REVISITED

by mtncorg

Did I tell you about the wonderous beaches of Aitutaki? Sit out under the Southern Cross and a million other stars in the evening and gaze a skies you can only dream of at home.

BEACHES

Best beaches on the main island are found southeast of the airport - Ootu - near the Aitutaki Resort Complex/Pearl Beach Resort. Remember your sunscreen.
