Rarotonga : Cross island trek. This is a 12km trek right through the centre of the island, from one side to the other, through heavy woodland. Its very hard work and takes about 4 1/2 hours so take a picnic and plenty of water! It is best to tell someone that you are going just incase you get lost but the island is so small that eventually you will come out at one side!...be careful if its wet as the tree roots become very slippery and dangerous. Go right up to 'the needle'(Te Rua Manga), a huge rock sticking out of the islands centre, where you can sit on a ledge overhanging a shire 'certain death' drop!(nice thought!) but the views from there are spectacular although getting there can be scary as you only have a rope and chain to hold onto to stop yourself from a gruesome death.
