  • Lenger's central mountain houses the rusting remains of a 6-in Whitworth mounted rifle, which defended the harbor from invading Allied forces in WWII. Smaller guns and a searchlight structure can be found around the same hillside, reached by a steep trail. Ask the locals to point you in the right direction.

    Much of Lenger's coastline is fringed by mangrove swamp forests, cut through by twisting channels. Canoeing through these channels is an incredibly peaceful experience, providing a glimpse into the complex ecosystem. Commonly seen are various shore birds, crab varieties, lizards and small fish.

    The best snorkeling location near Lenger is east of the seaplane ramp, part of the way to Parem Island. Lots of fat parrot fish provide nice spear fishing here. Water visibility is fair.
