Taxi's from Airport

  • Just a small warning. The taxi's in Suva are generally quite old, which is no major drama. Keep in mind though that most taxi's do not have meters. Taxi drivers will often try to overcharge you for a fare from the airport into Suva. I recommend negotiating a price before leaving the airport. The usual fare is around FJD$30.

  • A great way to learn more about Fiji, its inhabitants and its history is to visit the Fiji Museum.

Exhibitions probably aren't as slick as those you see in other countries, but they're still very informative.

    caqalai island

  • This small, very small island is far from the classic cliche of Fiji, luxurios hotels everything organized and so on.This is more like being in a relal Fijian village, if we can call it so.The bungalow are cosy and extremely romantic , with no facilities and no electricity.Let s say that there is a shared bathroom........however no running water(thanksgod it was raining when i was there so we could have showers...)Anyway the people running the place are fantastic and make you feel home, or even better. There is not much to do, in 15minutes walk you can circumnavigate the island, just enjoy with the locals and relax. If you happen to be there on sunday you ll be invited to the neighbouring island to attend the church mass , go there even if u are not a believer. Afterwards you ll be invited for a kava session with the villagers.

    Massage

  • I like to have a regular massage when travelling, so was quite surprised when my hotel recommended the local beautician. My references here are for "legit" massages! Called the House of Esther, they offer a range of beauty treatments for the ladies. For me, I just had a swedish massage which was great. The girl that did it was very professional. At first glance, the premises look a little shabby. Don't be put off, they were clean and the staff were friendly. My colleague also had a massage there and was equally impressed. Certainly not a gourmet day spa, but for a basic swedish massage it was good. Other massages available were shiatsu and I think chinese.

  • Beaches are by far the best thing in Fiji, my suggestion if you are not staying on a beach resort and for some reason are staying in Suva, Is to get at least a couple of hours out of the city, and relax on the beach with a good book.
