BEACHCOMBER ISLAND: Night life in the Yasawas

by bjmd22

Beachcomber is very well known with Fiji travelers as the place to be. It is a very small island with a large dorm and wonderful buffet meals. The cost is a bit above average, at $F75 per night for a dorm, but it is well worth it for a couple nights. But be sure and reserve at least 2 weeks ahead during the busy times.

Traps and Wolfhound in Suva

by geanster

We went out a couple of nights to some of the popular night spots in Suva. My friends I was with are from there so that was cool. We spent some time at a place called Traps and another place called Wolfhound which is attached to the Bad Dog Cafe. It was a nice bar to stop by for a few drinks and there are tv's and pool tables. Traps is more dance oriented with good music. I learned the tradition of drinking taki style which is when everyone shares a pitcher, and the single glass. I didn't have a problem with it till I saw one guy pouring the last bit of beer from his bottle in there. Ugh. One thing that definitely caught my attention was the forwardness of some of the fijian guys after having a few drinks. Felt a bit like Mardi Gras. Someone grabbed my arse and then someone else took me by the arm. I looked up trying to figure out if I knew the guy and of course I didn't. I'm just giving...

The Treasure Island Strings...

by TashieKitten

The Treasure Island Strings (on the resort island) were not all that great, kind of a 'family reunion' type fun but overall, very sweet. Very few people from the U.S. were on the island and in Fiji in general because three months prior there was a military coup. I believe shoes were required.

If you want some fun and meet a lot of tourists go to Beachcomber. But you will never have a good Kava setion with Fijian poeple there. It's good fun to have a nice party in such a scenery. The corals are beautiful and very close to the beach. For each meal you have a big choice of food on the buffet. Try everything, it's exellent !

The Sand Bar, Beachcomber...

by mark88

The Sand Bar, Beachcomber Island.Everynight a live band. The picture is of the Bula Dance. The band encourages everyone to get on the dance floor for this beachcomber speciality. Give it a try. It's good fun and easy to learn.

The Sand Bar: The Sand Bar

by mark88

This place is unique. Its called the Sand Bar because the floor is sand. No shoes needed here. They have a live band every night and everyone has to have a go at the Bula Dance. Best things to wear are Bikinis, Shorts, or T Shirts -No collar, tie or jacket required and would be out of place anyway.

It was my 19th Birthday while I was out there, so one of the girls from the village (who was always hassling me for ciggarettes) came with me into Suva. There are quite a few bars (the names of which escape me at the moment) full of tourists and some locals.
