when you are coming by cruiseship

by globetrott Updated Feb 22, 2012

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

When you are coming by cruiseship, your ship has to anchor outside of the port and
the small tenderboats will take you ashore within a time of about 15 minutes.
The landingplace of the tenderboats will be at a shopping-centre including also a travelagency, there might be local musicians like we enjoyed them there all day long.
There is no further customs-formalities and not even our boarding-card was checked by the local authorities.

    Take a walk in Savusavu

by globetrott Updated Feb 22, 2012

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Everything that might be of interest for the ordinary tourist is within walking-distance
from the place where the tenderboats are landing. I took a walk of about 2 hours in the hot sun and as this was my only visit in Savusavu, you can see here in my page how much you can see and enjoy within that quite short periode of time.
All places of interest in Savusavu are within a range of 700 meters from the place, where the tenders will take you to !

    take a local bus

by globetrott Updated Feb 22, 2012

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The ones of you who are daring enough might even try to take one of the many local buses that are waiting on the big square in front of the covered market in Savusavu.
Dont expect to find an AC, but a lot of the windows will be open and cool down the bus a bit while driving. Most drivers will speak english and tickets have to be payed in the local currency !
Good luck & hopefully you will be back in time onboard the ship !

Pacific Sun Airlines from Nai to Savusavu

by Usctwin Written Jul 1, 2013

You can get to Savusavu from Nadi either by air or by sea. We chose by air, Pacific Sun's domestic carrier, as it is the faster route. We boarded our very small plane (about 16 seats total) for our hour flight from Nadi to Savusavu. It's important to know that there is a chance that your luggage may not make it on the same flight with you. They do weigh you as well as you luggage and they let you take a small carryon with you on the plane. It is recommended that in your carryon you have items such as medicine, a bathing suit, a bath essentials in case your luggage doesn't make it with you. We were lucky that our flights had only about 6-8 people on them so our luggage made it on both flights. Also, since the plane is so small and short, there is no bathroom and no beverage service, so make sure to use the facilities before you board and grab some water.

Flying on Air Pacific from LAX to NADI

by Usctwin Written Jul 1, 2013

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I have flown internationally many times and this was the worst aircraft I have ever been on. We were in economy and not only were the seats small and narrow, the flight attendants weren't friendly and the TV's in our seats didn't work. Fortunately, we had our ipad so we were able to pass the 11 hour flight with our own entertainment. They also do not seem to want to provide you with water.

I have read that Air Pacific is becoming Fiji Airways this month and has gotten new aircrafts. I hope this change will make the experience a better one. For now it seems this is the best way to get to the Fiji islands.
