Orchid Island
  • Tip Rating:
  • Orchid Island is sort of a wildlife reserve, you will walk through bush and see animals and plants that grow around Fiji.

You will be shown Fijian customs and how native Fijians in villages used to and still do things. eg. How bures were constructed, how to weave flax baskets and even opening a coconut.

Orchid Island staff members will also give you a chance to touch some of the animals and show you how they catch animals that they dont want in an area.

  • There are many small-uninhibited islands in the area. Local tour operators, can arrange a trip to one of them for small groups (you can join individually). On the island there are good beaches, organized activities (including traditional Kava ceremony) and snorkeling.

    Go snorkelling
  • Tip Rating:
  • Snorkelling is something you can do off most of the islands, although the reefs off the main island of Viti Levu aren't exactly 'pristine'. But you will still get to see a variety of fish, starfish, harmless sea snakes and sea cucmbers. Wear a t-shirt to stop your back from getting sunburnt, and take a disposable underwater camera. Most decent hotels will provide complimentary snorkel masks and flippers. All you need to do is float around and enjoy.

  • If you look from far away the mountain looks like a giant lying on his back. The beautiful garden displaying Fiji's unique tropical beauty, nestled in it's own shady mountain valley. You stroll through a spectacular array of gardens, areas of rare orchids and flowering plants cross lily ponds and through a cool, tropical jungle. Complimentary, ice-cold tropical fruit drinks.

    Semi-sub, Malolo Lailai
  • Tip Rating:
  • While on Malolo Lailai you must see the semi-sub, this is a boat specially designed to view coral reefs, visitors on the boat climb down to a glass room a metre below the surface. The boat will take you out to a coral reef. Here you will see amasing coral and colourful fish.

If you dont like snorkling or diving this is a great way to see the underwater creatures.

I like cheep good food and...
  • Tip Rating:
  • I like cheep good food and Fiji has lots of that .When in Nandi go into town and find Clay street its by the opean air market. On your left hand side is the restaurant The Curry House great food and cheep. I used to know the manager Anand Sami is his name he would make special curries for me ask what is special on the menue. Ask to watch them making the curries I was able to its amazing its made in these huge pots. You know the kind in the old Tarzan movies that the natives used to cook up the white hunters. So check it out and dont forget to say Bula....
Fiji if I recall correctly has the second largest reef system on the planet, although it could be third. But regardless, the diving and snorkeling are magic. The best way to find the best beach dives on the island are one to ask and two to rent a car and go down every road that looks good. Every road just a bout that goes through the cain fields will take you to some sort of beach. Just remember to go towards the ocean and not towards the highlands,no diving in the highlands....

  • A high-speed jet boat, bulleting at high speeds past narrow mangrove lined corridors of the Nadi River. A special technology allows for unbelievable maneuvers past natural obstacles. The ride is both a thrill and fun.

  • A visit to SUVA, the capital city.
Suva, Fiji's capital, is on the south-eastern coast of the big island of Viti Levu. While Nadi, in the west of this island, is the tourism centre of the country (and where the Int'l airport is located), Suva is interesting as the country's political and administrative centre as well as the major port. Suva and its urban surrounds are home to half of Fiji's urban population, and it is one of the South Pacific's largest and most sophisticated cities, housing the University of the South Pacific, the interesting Fiji Museum and many interesting colonial-era buildings. It's a multicultural city with many mosques, temples, churches and cultural centres. The Roman Catholic Cathedral (1902) is one of the city's most prominent landmarks.

The waterfront area is very interesting, and the Suva Municipal Market is a must-see for visitors for its exotic fruits and vegetables, kava, fish and seafood, and spices. It has an exciting multicultural flavour, with vendors selling brightly coloured Indian sweets and savouries, and fruit drinks from glass tanks.

This is possibly one of the most obvious activities to do in Fiji, but it's also one of the most scenic. The warm waters make it even more enjoyable. Pleanty of coloured fish and coral, and even some sharks and turtles.

  • Directions: Fiji has countless dive spots so look into the closest one to where you want to go. Beqa lagoon is known as a good dive spot but while in Fiji we were told that because so many dive boats drop anchor, the lagoon is getting destroyed.
