Air Fiji

by bjmd22

I did about 11 flights with Air Fiji. I found the airline a breath of fresh air. And there is just something funny about getting into a plane that looks like Cheech and Chongs van! No redtape no hassel. You tell the ticket agent where you want to go they write a ticket and you go...or if you change your mind they are really flexible. You can change times, destinations, passengers anything you like...and if they give you problems have a local call and talk in fijian they just cant help but comply.

YASAWA FLYER

by bjmd22

The Yasawa flyer is a boat ran by Awsome Adventures. If you are going out to one of the islands chances are you will ride it. The trick is to get your monies worth. Most trips cost at $F40 oneway. So if you plan to stay in the islands and hop around a BULA PASS may be the way to go. It costs 199$F for 7 days or 265 for 21 days. The boat is really nice with and air conditioned cabin and sun deck. Oh yeah, this may not sound important but they sell ice cream on the boat! You stay on the islands for 3 weeks and you will be looking for ice cream too! It takes about 5 hours from Nadi to the furthest point, but it is an enjoyable ride.

"Air-conditioned" buses

by geanster

While in Fiji, I did have access to cars and drivers, however we often took taxi's which I found pretty affordable and easy to get. They're often in filthy shape with no working seatbelts, but they get you to and fro. :) I'm thinking the average price was around $2USD to get from the village I was staying in to downtown Suva, I'm sorry I can't give mileage as I don't remember. Most of the locals take the buses which you can see in the photo. Natural air-conditioning.We also found a bus that took us the 3 hours from Suva towards Nadi when we were wanting to go stay at a resort out there. I think the trip was only about 10$ USD and it was a nice bus, however it stops at a few other tourist accommodations on the way. We left from the Holiday Inn in Suva so if you're interested in learning more, you could probably contact them if you're there.

Island Express

by IcemanNZL

The Island Express is another way to get to the outer islands. This will take you a few hours to a day depending how far your resort is from the main island, you have to stop at every island resort to drop off passengers which is a good way to see where to plan your next holiday to Fiji. This is a very relaxing way to travel around, seeing the island resorts and deep blue water while you relax in the sunshine.Disembarking is all the fun, jumping from the Island Express to a small boat to take you to shore is interesting, although i have never seen anyone fall off.

Rattlers

by IcemanNZL

Travel around Fiji is a bit like a rollercoaster ride, the roads are bumpy and full of potholes. The cheapest way to get around is by bus also known as rattlers. These are buses with no windows and sound like they could blow up at anytime, but they are an experience to have. Rattlers run to most towns and villages around Fiji, and you wont have to wait more than 15 minutes for one to pick you up.

Plane to Musket Cove Resort

by IcemanNZL

Musket Cove Resort, situated on Plantation Island is lucky enough to have an airstrip, you can take a small plane to the island which takes roughly 20 minutes. This is a good way to see islands and reef formations and is also the quickest way to get to your island resort paradise.

Cabs

by TashieKitten

If you'd like to take a cab, try bargaining the price down. You can also hire a cab for the day but if you do, don't let them talk you into where THEY want to go (though make note of their suggestions). Cabbies can get kickbacks from stores when they bring customers in.

it is very simple, either fly ot take one of the cruises that stops in FijiThere are a few ways, rent a car (not advized) take a bus, this is a must do for the experience, they are very cheap and show extremely bad movies. OR take a cab, this is a good way to get around, it is very cheap (we took a cab from kogot to Nadi, which is bout one and a half to two hours away and payde F$30, which is about 20 US).

by Greyraven23

We took Air New Zealand from LA to Fiji... it was a great flight and was only about half full. The trip back was more crowded and had a 4 hour layover in Honolulu, but they still had great customer service. I wouldn't recommened driving as the people there tend to drive on the extreme side... best to grab a taxi and hang on for your life.
