We had only two days on Mana, and did nothing but relaxing on the beach / taking an occasional stroll. But the agency / the accomodation offers a choice of activities, amongst them a trip to the location of "Castaway", which was filmed on one of the islands on this picture.
33 Namoli Street, Mana Island, Fiji
Satisfaction: Very Good
Good for: Business
Some Resorts have there own boat transfer (for instance Ratu Kini leaving Nadi/Smugglers Cove about 10.30 and Mana about 12), including transer from Nadi airport, Nadi hotels and some other islands (Bounty island for instance), retourne is Fiji $ 100.
Pacific Sun has 2-3 flights per day, but cancels flights for some days somtimes (early april 2010 for instance), about Fiji$ 100.
If you book your accomodation in advance the agent can arrange for you to be picked up at the Nadi airport. Our trip was arranged by the agent who "shanghaied" us at the airport, we were driven to the harbour and I must honestly say that I do not know the exact location of it. Just found the name Denarau Marina on another web site. The katamaran looked new / well maintained, and the crew was very professional.
Return fare is 80 Fiji Dollars.
The gate on the picture is the entrance to a resort with bungalows, pools etc. We, the backpackers, were not allowed into this area, it was fenced in. To get to Mereani's we had to walk along the beach. A weird and for us unknown feeling beeing considered as low class like this. Thought-provoking.
On a walk around the island we found this airfield. The path goes across the airstrip, and there was a sign warning us about incoming and outgoing aircraft! Not that we saw any ;-)
