Tama'a Maitai Restaurant: Don't miss the mahi mahi fish burger

    by Helga67 Updated Jun 7, 2004

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

This big open sided restaurant with a thatched roof, is the beach restaurant of Hotel Le Matai Polynesia. They serve good food for a decent price.

They have an excellent burger bar but also serve the traditional Tahitian food like Poisson cru or mahi mahi.

The atmosphere is very casual with indoor and outdoor seating at Formica tables.

Open daily from 11:30 am to 9 pm

Favorite Dish: Mahi mahi fish burger, the best I ever ate!
Desert: try the pineapple prepared on different ways, yummy

Tamure Grill: Bora Bora Nui's Tamure Grill

by ATXtraveler Updated Apr 4, 2011

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Even if you are not staying at the Bora Bora Nui, do not fret... you can still enjoy the beautiful beach and grab a bite to eat. The Tamure Grill is located right off the beach at the Nui, and offers many traditional American dishes such as the Chicken Burger, Ham and Cheese Panini and the infamous French Fries. Although there is nothing special about this menu, it is still very competitively priced, and was actually very reasonable for a hotel!

Favorite Dish: I enjoyed the Chicken Burger, it was huge... and they PILED the fries on your plate!

Kon Tiki: A part of "Eat, Dive and Sleep"

by Bilimari Written May 27, 2007

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Kon Tiki is one of the top rated French Polynesian style restaurant in Bora Bora Dive Resort, where we stayed. We had breakfast here everyday, and lunch/dinner a few times each. All meals we had were excellent in both taste and the presentation. We had "our-table" by the window over looking the beautiful water.

Reservation is required. Free transportation available.

Favorite Dish: Mahi Mahi tempura and chocolate cake. mmmmmm

    Fare Manuia: French Polynesian meals

A casual small restaurant with 10+ tables in open air facility.
Great meal, everything is prepared nicely. Meat dishes are good, too, but must try fresh sea food dishes. Have a good bottle of wine. Don't worry about driving back to your hotel. They have a free pick up service to and from hotel.

On our last night in BB we decide to treat ourselves and eat at Top DIve. This is an upscale restaurant which served local dishes with beautiful presentation. The atmosphere is gorgeous with dark wood, cathedral ceiling, and windows all around with a view of the lagoon.

The restaurant also provides air-conditioned transportation to and from your hotel.

Maitai Polynesia - Haere Mai: Fine dining at the fantastic Haere Mai

by Muya Written May 30, 2008

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Delicious and refined. A 3-course meal was included with our half-board, but we could also switch with the restaurant Tama’a Mai Tai at the beach. The food was so good, that we hardly wanted to try another restaurant !

There was first the pre-starter, usually tuna or salmon sashimi with lime juice, followed by the starter, the meal itself and the desert. Each day we promised ourselves we would skip the desert because it was really too much...but we couldn't resist ;-)

For a perfect evening, start with a cocktail at the Manuia Bar !
We received 2 champagne cocktails as welcome present (along with a pareo and a shirt) that we sipped at the bar while waiting for the resaurant to open. We actually went back a few times after that... :-))

Favorite Dish: My favourite meal was : shrimps tempura and fried vegetables ; scampi and scallop brochettes marinated in lemongrass ; frozen mango cream and its quark with almond thin cookie.

And my husband's : Shrimps pan in steamed vegetables; duck magret with orange-flavoured caramel and coriander, bananas flambées with rhum and brownies topped with salty butter caramel

Maitai Polynesia - Tama’a Mai Tai

Lunch at noon and dinner in the evening

We had a delicious mahi mahi burger at noon on our first day.

We ate there twice in the evening and were very satisfied, although meals were less refined than at the Haere Mai. Next to the beach and the sea, which provides an agreable cool breeze.

Favorite Dish: My husband's favourite meal : fenua of raw tuna in coconut milk and lime, seafood pasta, fruit salad

My favourite : stir-fried shrimps with ginger, swordfish steak with tomato chutney, banana pie "tatin"

This is a great little restaurant in Vaitape. We had a great tuna sandwitch and a pizza, washed down with some cold, local beer. If you need a computer, you can pay for one here too. We ate here twice. Great way to kill the clock while you wait for the ferry.

It's about where you are at, not what you eat.

by texaslloyd Written Apr 6, 2006

Not very vegetarian friendly, so we settled with salad and pasta, but after all, we came here for the beach, not the food.
The restaurant at the hotel was very nice. There were live fish swiming at our feet, it was beautiful.

Bora Kaina Hut: Little Seafood Hut in Bora Bora

by acebruin Written Jan 6, 2009

Kaina Hut is literally a small hut by the lagoon across the main road. With sand floor and a thatch roof, the atmosphere and surroundings create a romantic feel. The concierge in our hotel, IC Thalasso, recommended this hotel to us. Several of the locals there also recommended this place for seafood. The dishes are fusion of French cuisine with Polynesian and Asian ingredients and flares.

We had the seared tuna salad and over-cooked mussels with garlic for appetizer, seabass and grilled lobster for main course, and chocolate lava cake for dessert. The food is really good over all.

The service is great as well. The waiter is a pretty funny guy. You'll also have unexpected guests. There are a lot of cats and dogs on the island, and some make their way into the restaurant.

Favorite Dish: The grilled lobster is very tasty! The mussels are pretty good too! At the end of the day, I recommend this place to everyone any day!

Maitai Polynesia - Tiki Dej': Breakfast

by Muya Written May 28, 2008

Fairly good, but not exceptional (at least the breakfast included in the room price, which was the basic one).

We didn't try other breakfasts on the menu, but I saw people ordering more complete breakfasts as well.

Favorite Dish: Delicious mango and papaya jam, and mango juice.
Nice Polynesian setting and cared decoration, and a sense of details that I appreciated a lot (see the juice dispenser on the picture).

    Dom Poulet: Roulotte

There are a lot of those little vans selling cheap food in French Polynesia.
We found this one in Vaitape
We had a good chicken sandwich, not too expensive.
