Waverunner Bora Bora

by annk

Bora Bora was by far the most beautiful of the islands we visited (in my opinion). The water was phenomenal.....gorgeous shades of turquoise and blue, intensified by the sandy bottom.Half way around the island, we stopped at a burial site where at one time humans were sacrificed.

Shark & Ray Feeding - Bora Bora

by annk

One of the most exhilarating & exciting excursions. The first stop was to an area where the guides feed the sharks. There were strong currents so we were instructed to hold on to a rope. People that were not strong swimmers had more of a tendency to panic. So there was a bit of a frenzy between the sharks approach and the panicky swimmers. Our second stop was much calmer, to a shallow area to feed the stingrays. Most people were standing in chest high calm water. The rays are used to this, they approach very quickly out of nowhere.

Island tour of Moorea.

by annk

It's worth doing at least one island tour. Shown is a pineapple farm on our way up to the "Belvedere" on top of the mountain. From the peak there are spectacular views of both Opunohu and Cooks Bay that is if it's not fogged in.

Bicycle Bora Bora

by annk

Decided to take the advise of a flight attendent that lives in Bora Bora, and rented bicycles for 4 hours. Rode around the perimeter of the island, some 16-20 miles and enjoyed beautiful, peaceful scenery. The road was pretty flat except for one hill. It was deserted for most of the route with the exception of a a few locals.

Moorea snorkeling with the sharks and rays! An excellent experience not to be missed. You are separated from the sharks by a thin, floating blue line - oh yeah, and water - that's it! While the sharks seem to be more interested in the guide's food, I would hardly say that they are tame... just keep this side of the blue line. :-) A quiet day on the beach in Moorea snorkeling in the lagoon! Pictured is a Bora Bora bungalow. Many have glass tables with views into the water... wonderfully romantic at night.

Visit Rangiroa. This atoll is absolutely beautiful. Stay at the Kia Ora Village & Kia Ora Sauvage. At the Sauvage, those people who can't stand being away hot water or the extra amenities, beware. You won't get them here. This place has no electricity and you'll be living in rough. The sharkfeeding, diving, and snorkelling. The atoll is not as commercialized and since there are hardly any lights at night you'll be able to see a sky full of stars all the way to the horizon. Almost every night at 8:30 we were able to see meteors shooting by. It was unbelievable.

Stay there. Relax. Resist taking a cruise. Get to know your partner. Don't do anything. Matira Beach in Bora Bora... the soft sound of the waves lapping on the beach, with the roar of the Pacific crashing on the coral breakers in the distance... lulling us to sleep!

Freud!

by ATLC

Silliest memory: this famous picture I saw for the first time in Tahiti. Just at a souvenir shop in a poster stand. I was 11 then and to my young mind it was very unusual. Of course I didn't know it was Freud, no less what he stood for and what the picture meant. But it stuck.

When you arrive in Bora Bora you don't land on the main island. All travelers must take a boat to their destination. Most good hotels provide this service upon arrival.
