What's your first thing coming...

by BTP

What's your first thing coming up to your mind when you heard about Tahiti??? beaches... is it? well, there's not only beaches there, I can tell you... sure there are scuba diving, mountain climbing, but think about the dance shows, clubbing at the hottest nite club and dancing all nite long... memorable... and I'd love the traditional dish... better wash your hands, you'll need them... :) see ya... I guess the thing that I'll always miss when I'm away from home... it's the music... don't know how I can survive without it... I'll always have my cd packs with me... and remember my clubbing activities with friends.. the local dance.. yeah... ummm... :O)

Contact Dom at leodom@mail.pf; phone (country code)689-77-5761.. He is a local that I met on the web before traveling to Moorea. He knows the area and what it has to offer and can develop a personal tour for you. He is a wealth of knowledge and a joy to spend the day with. Relaxing and enjoying the slow pace. The area in the Belvedere preserve is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

I would highly recommend the 4x4 jeep safari on Tahiti island. The interior of Tahiti is it's best feature. If you love waterfalls and cloud forests this trip is well worth it. My fondest memory would be of my first glimpse of Bora Bora...the multiple shades of blue and green.

by Anasia

Okay, u've just landed in Faa'a, the international airport. Now, take ur luggages and leave Tahiti. Go and visit Moorea, Huahine, Tahaa, Raiatea. I love Tahiti, I've been raised there and this is the place where I belong. But it's not the most beautiful island in French Polynesia. My fav island is Huahine, tho I never was given the chance to visit each island (French Polynesia is as big as Europe actually).

A little History You could...

by grannysmith

A little History You could say that FP is in the middle of nowhere without being far wrong! Navigators sighted the first of its islands in the XVIth century while looking for the Terra Australis Incognita but it was 2 centuries later that Captain Samuel Wallis discovered Tahiti in 1767 aboard HMS Dolphin and white men set foot on its shores. The French followed less than a year later with Bougainville and the ubiquitous Captain Cook made several trips over the next years discovering the Society Islands in the process. The first europeen settlement was Spanish and lasted only as long as its ruler Boenechea, who died in Tahiti thereby ending the 4 military men and missionaries' stay there. After that came the reknowned Bounty fiasco. So in the space of 20 years, a whole series of ships had come and gone through FP, all with conflicting allegiances... Someone would have to back down. In...

Take the time to relax!Go with the flow or you will be out of sync with the local population!A lot of the same activities are available on most islands so it's easy to hop from island to island without missing out. And you can always have another go at something you really liked! Most of my childhood memories revolve around the beach or at least living outdoors. The 5 senses are solicited all the time.Sight: Of Course! Sunsets lighting up the skies, Sunlight cutting through clear water, Rainbows crowning wet and green volcanic mountains...Smell: That first inhalation you get out of the plane of fresh flowers pervading the air, Monoi (local oil)scents on the beach...Touch: Sand like sifted flour or just broken off coral, Monoi touched skin,Tropical flower petals...Taste: Freshly caught fish marinated in lime, Tahitian Vanilla,Pineapple...Hearing: Tahitian pop, ukulele, waves breaking...

absorbe all the paradise has to offer - take in the beautiful sunrise and sunset. I've never seen anything like it. We were there on our honeymoon and stayed at the Beachcombers in Bora Bora and Moorea. The only thing we could do there was relax and enjoy the calm lifestyle, a nice change from our NY lifestyle! Feeding tropical fish through the sliding coffee table in our over-the-water bungalow in Bora Bora. I could sit there for hours just watching the color tropical fish swimming underneath us. We also went out on our own private deck and swam with them. It really was the most amazing experience.

paulita1's General Tip

by paulita1

I took a long walk while in Nuku Hiva. In a neighborhood I came across six siblings playing in their yard. In my fractured french I asked them their names and ages (they were ages 3 to 11). Then they wanted to know where I had come from. I said 'See that big ship out in the ocean. I arrived on that ship and I came from very far away.' Then one of them said, 'Ah, you came from Fatu Hiva!' I had to smile. That was the extent of their idea of 'far away.'

have a trip round the island of Moorea where you can find many fantastic beaches, some of them became world famous through films like 'matiny on the bounty' taken at Cook-Bay or also the most beautiful beach Baie d'Opunohu
