The best way to see the island is by car. There is a road (32 km - 20 miles) around the island that passes through the little villages. There is another road, called la route transversale, that crosses part of the island and is best explored by Jeep.
Air Tahiti has three to six flights daily between Tahiti and Huahine. This is a 35-minute non-stop flight. There is also a daily flight from/to Moorea.
If you have hotel reservations then you will be met at the airport and driven to your hotel. There are also taxis at the airport, as well as Avis and Europcar counters.
Check-in time at the airport is one hour before scheduled departure.
On Huahine, we rented a jetski for a whole day. It was a great experience. A guide takes you around the island. You visit the different bays, have a picnic on a motu and do some snorkelling. We recommend it to everyone. I don't know whether this guide still operates but back in 1994 he could be reached on Huahine - Titiraina Jet Tour - Yves Gaden.
