The sparkling lagoon awaits!

From the moment we first caught a glimpse of the 2nd largest atoll of the Tuamotu islands, we knew this was going to be an unforgettable experience.

It was a strange sight to see this thin strip of land encircle the tranquil lagoon for miles and miles around, while outside, the ocean roars beyond the edge of this strange moon-like landscape.

Air Tahiti operates flights to Fakarava 6 times weekly from Papeete. However, keep in mind that if you are arriving from any of the other islands, you still have to connect and originate your flight to the Tuamotos from Papeete.

We departed the island of Maupiti and had to change planes 3 times before arriving into Fakarava. Maupiti to Raiatea to Papeete to Rangiroa to Fakarava.

All those planes for a 1 hour 20 min flight!
