Air Tahiti by ATXtraveler If you are headed to Moorea, you only have a couple options. Ferry, Cruise Ship, or by Airplane. We only had one opportunity to see the Moorea Airport, since it was so convenient to ferry over from Papeete, we only used the airport for transport to Bora Bora. I would actually recommend getting to this airport about an hour before your flight if you are checking baggage, since they do take quite a while to check your bags in! Leave a Comment

Moorea airport by Helga67 The Temae Airport in Moorea has restrooms, a restaurant-bar, car rental agencies, and information counters. Taxi service is usually available for all arriving flights. There is, however, no bus service provided to the airport. We used Torea Nui Transport for our transfer from the airport to the hotel. They have an office at the Moorea airport and a one-way ticket costs 500 CFP (4 EUR) per person per trip to any place on the island. For your departure with Air Moorea (back to Tahiti) your check-in time is 15 minute prior to departure. When you are going to one of the other islands, like Huahine, Bora Bora, Raiatea your check-in time with Air Tahiti is one hour prior to departure. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

There are two ways to get from Tahiti to Moorea, by air or ferry. We tried both and air is obviously quicker and more convenient. We used Air Moorea with their tiny little aircraft but it wasn't too bumpy and the trip only takes ten minutes. Flights are roughly every hour from early morning to late evening. The aircraft interior is my photo, the other is from their website Leave a Comment Theme: AirplanePhone: Tel 689-86.41.41Website: www.airmoorea.com Other Contact: reservation@airmoorea.pf

From Tahiti, the quickest way to reach Moorea is to fly this tiny airplane. A funny flight actually, very noisy and not that reassuring, although you can control each of the pilot's moves : there is no door separating him from his passengers... It was very strange to see him push on all those buttons and then turn to us and ask "Ready?" :-) Sit on the left side of the plane for great views on Tahiti and Moorea ! The Moorea Express by easyoar There are several boats that leave to/from Moorea to Papeete (Papeete is the capital of Tahiti) a few times a day. Unfortunately they all seem to depart at virtually the same time, so if you miss a boat, you can have several hours wait for the next one, so make sure you know what times the boats leave in advance and get there early as they depart promptly - they don't work on Tahitian time (i.e. late!). From memory, the boat is around £5 (less than $10 US) for a single to Tahiti (returns are double), which actually maks it quite good value by Polynesian standards! Leave a Comment Theme: Ship/Boat

Rental Car at Titiroa Marae by easyoar Whilst it is not especially cheap to rent a car in Moorea, it can work out quite cost effective compared to paying someone else to take you to places (hotels are so expensive you don't tend to be staying long, so everything is done in a hurry, so Le Truck is not always feasible!). You can rent cars by the day with unlimited mileage however bear in mind that Moorea is very small, so unless you planning on driving laps of the Island all day, you are unlikely to do big mileage! Probably the best bet is to rent a car for a couple of days and try and do all your daytime excursions and evening trips whilst you have it. Then spend the rest of the time exploring your local beach. For instance if you are going to an evening performance at the Tiki Village, they can want almost $20 USD per person to pick them up (even if you are only staying a few kilometres away), this pays for about half the car and you get all day use of it too... This picture shows the car we rented at Titiroa Marae, the wall at the end of the carpark is the Marae, not a carpark wall at all! Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

Le Truck by easyoar By far the cheapest way to get around Moorea is to use Le Truck. Le Truck is a bus that basically drives around the island, and you flag it down at a stop, and let the driver know when you need to get off - it can be flexible sometimes although it is supposed to use proper stops. I can'tremember the exact cost, but it was the only thing I remember in Moorea that felt good value. However be aware that Le Truck does run on Tahiti time (i.e. it can be pretty late). If you are doing something to a budget then Le Truck is great. If you are in a hurry, get a car! However Le Truck can be good for getting to and from the Ferry, as it stops right outside the ferry terminal, and seems to try and coincide its stops with the ferry arriving/departing. I haven't got picture of Le-Truck myself, so this photo is courtesy of Tahiti Tourisme Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

Public ground transportation is provided by buses or le truck, waiting in front of the terminals upon the arrival of the catamaran and ferries. Make sure you get on the right bus because one bus goes in the direction of Cook's bay and the other goes the opposite way in the direction of Haapiti. You pay the driver 300 CFP (2.5 EUR) before boarding, and pull the cord, ring the bell or holler "stop" when you want to get off. Leave a Comment Theme: Ship/Boat

Getting to Moorea from Papeete is extraordinarily simple. There are a few different ferries making the crossing, and there is no need for an advance reservation. Just walk down to the Papeete waterfront, buy a ticket, and hop on when the next ferry leaves. The schedule is such that you will probably not have to wait too long for a ferry to take you over, especially if you do not require space for a vehicle. Between all the ferries, there were approximately ten crossings a day at the time of my visit. My ticket on one of the passengers-only ferries cost CFP 800. If you choose to take one of the ferries that can accomodate vehicles, the charge is CFP 700 plus CFP 2000 per vehicle. Leave a Comment Theme: Ship/BoatPhone: 43-76-50
