Rockin' out at Le Kikiriri!
by Geisha_Girl Papeete is considered to have French Polynesia's only urban scene. We made the most of our one night stay in this urban playground, and when the sun set and the lights came up....we observed a very interesting change in mode around the city.
After spending weeks lounging in nothing but our pareos on the outer islands, it was time to put on the party clothes and kick it up a notch!
The sun went down and the Tahitians were ready for some fun.
Most of the main nightlife activites are situated along Papeete's waterfront strip near the main dock. Luckily, our hotel was on one of the main strips, so we had a variety of clubs and pubs to choose from.
Le Royal Kikiriri came highly recommended by our friend in New Caledonia who always makes a point to stop by this club to see his favorite live band perform whenever he's in town.
After getting through the long line of people at the entrance, we were whisked into this very lively danceclub filled with mostly locals.......and everyone seemed to be on the dancefloor.
The live band performed the typical traditional island fusion mix of reggae, and upbeat island sounds.
Other "happening" places to check out in Papeete:
LE RETRO - located in the Vaima Center/ a Parisian style cafe.
LE CHAPLIN'S also located in the Vaima Center
Le Tamure Hut - in the Hotel Royal Papeete features dancing to old and new live Tahitian music.
Le Piano Bar - offers Transvestite Shows!
When we realized how much night activity went on in Papeete, we both agreed: "We should have stayed more nights here!"
Typical casual island wear seemed to be the dress of choice. Leave a Comment
