If you just want to pick up some fruit or other snacks, you can't beat the central market in downtown Uturoa. You'll find inexpensive produce that will sustain you if you're self-catering so you don't have to spend a lot of money eating out at upscale restaurants.
What to buy: For only CFP 300, I bought a bunch of bananas, a pineapple, and a papaya. The lady who sold me these items even threw in another pineapple for free!
What to pay: Prices will obviously vary depending on what you're buying and whether or not the salesperson is willing to negotiate, but for just a few hundred CFP you can expect to walk away with several pieces of fresh fruit.
Anno 2004, there is only one internet cafe on Raiatea. It is located at SARL Phenic, upstairs in Le Bihan Building in Tahina, between Uturoa center and the airport.
There are 6 computers. They are open Monday through Friday 8 am to 12 pm and 2 pm to 5 pm. Saturday from 8 am to 12 pm and closed on Sunday.
What to pay: 15 CFP (0.13 EUR) per minute
The big building beside the ship dock "Gare Maritime Building" is kind of a shopping center with a couple of restaurants, boutiques, jewelry shops and an 'Arts and Crafts Village' or 'Fare Mama', where the artisan mamas display their hand painted dresses and pareos, woven hats and bags, woodcarvings and shell jewelry.
There are also various boutiques on the main street.
