FOOD
Bora Bora is rather well touristed, therefore has a number of eating and dining establishments. Choices can be divided between the restaurants at the various hotels and private non hotel related dining. Cuisine ranges from basic island staples like fruits and fish dishes to world class French cuisine. The food is usually delicious, but you may have to sample different restaurants before you find one that suits your taste and budget.

You'd probably walk right past this restaurant -- its resin chairs don't add to the ambiance (or maybe they do) -- but it's the best deal in Bora Bora. Specializing in Chinese-French cuisine, this affordable and tasty (arguably the best food in Bora Bora) this restaurant is not to be missed.
Favorite Dish: Poisson cru - the best we had on our trip.

The food at the Sheraton was very good. We also ate at Alfredo's and LeCochera (sp?). We tried to visit Le Mahogany twice because it had been recommended several times, but were unable to eat there. All of the food on the island was good.
The restaurant at the Sheraton is on the second story and overlooks the ocean. There is inside and outside seating available. The atmosphere at Alfredo's is quaint and they offer live entertainment.
Favorite Dish: The Sheraton has a good selection on the menu. Even the steaks were great. The seafood bar on the weekend is great! Anything on Alfredo's menu is a good choice.

Bloody Mary's on Bora Bora...we had our best meal for the money here. Even after reading about how expensive food was in French Polynesia, I was still shocked.
The food here was excellent...closer to what you'd expect in Hawaii or California. The service is non-friendly...the atmosphere is a bit touristy.
Favorite Dish: Teriyaki Ono & New York strip

At the moment, I really like the Sushi Bar in the Vaima Center in Papeete and the Plantation in Moorea.
The Sushi Bar overlooks the waterfront and is pretty affordable if you don't stack up too many plates.
The Plantation is unfortunately set over the road but it hardly matters at night.
Favorite Dish: The Plantation offers dishes that marry french inspired cuisine with local ingredients.
Try the lagoon fish in vanilla sauce or the prawns in coconut milk. Delicious!

The restaurant has a Polynesian decor with 4 dining areas. they also have a pool that is great for a romantic evening watching the Sunsets.
This place is located up in the mountains and they have a private 'truck' to take the guests from the hotel to the restaurant
Favorite Dish: Mahi-Mahi, and Pepper steak.

Address: Fare Rau Ape Valley, Pirea
The restaurant at a dive resort called 'Top Dive' on Bora Bora
It's close to the downtown area and not as much of a tourist trap as Bloody Mary's. The food is also much better!
Favorite Dish: The mussel appetizer is great and the shrimp dish with curry and coconut as an entree is worth the investment!

Address: It's about 1 mile outside of the main town
McDonald's Restaurant is the paradise of all in French Polynesia! Good, safe, clean and cheap food! That will make you to feel American pride after eating Big Mac and tasty french potato fries! Seafood in Tahiti contains lethal poisonous-tainted substances because they picked up from polluted lagoons nearby sewage waste disposal from tourist hotels. Remote islands without any tourist commercial activities are generally safe for eating seafood as long as they cook well.
McDonald's Restaurant has air conditioning that keeps you cool inside! Hot humid and sticky with a swarm of mosquitoes will ruin your day in Tahiti and so, McDonald's Restaurant will save your day by staying inside of nice cool air atmosphere! The price is expensive but affordable for your stomach needs. You will love it!
Favorite Dish: McDonald's Big Mac, McDonald's Double Cheeseburgers, French Fries, Apple Pie, Chocolate Milk Shake - It was delicious - WoW! It is the best food of all in French Polynesia!

The REALLY SENSATIONAL place to eat in an evening(and the best) is at one of the many little cafe stalls on the harbour side in Papeete. The warm tropical evenings the starry skies and the scent of flowers added to the good food make it so special.
Favorite Dish: The fish dishes were delicious

Le Pecheur on Moorea. It's a strange policy, but you get yourself to a restaurant on Moorea (usually by cab) and the restaurant will get you back to your hotel. Le Pecheur has amazingly fresh fish prepared impeccably. There is a combination of French and Polynesian influence.
It was casual (as most are) , intimate and reasonably priced.
Favorite Dish: My favorite was the fish cooked in parchment. It was moist, delicate and absolutely delicious.
