by yeah_baby You can fly nonstop from Los Angeles to Papeete, Tahiti, in eight hours on Air New Zealand, Air France, or Qantas. From Papeete you fly another 45 minutes on Air Tahiti to Bora Bora. Accommodations are generally on the expensive side so make your travel agent go over some cheaper options with you. Air France Air New Zealand - (via Auckland) Air Tahiti Nui AOM Corsair Hawaiian Air United Airlines For up to a one month stay, U.S. citizens need a round trip ticket and a passport that is valid for 6 months past the time of departure. by grannysmith Be careful of arrival and departure times if you're taking air nz because they get in and out at weird times that will have you spending unecessary nights in Papeete. Air Tahiti has a travel agency section that includes packages that you can taylor to your wants. It's great if you want to see a lot of islands and have things organised. Le Truck is the only form of public transport, great in Tahiti but unreliable in the islands. Rent a car, a scooter or a bike to have your own schedule and save time. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

by Anasia If u come from Europe or from the US, the cheapest air company is Nouvelles Frontières. It leaves from Paris, LA and San Fran. If u live in the US, the only Nouvelles Frontières agency is located in New-York. For short travels in Tahiti, take the local bus called 'truck'. If u want to get around the other islands, the best thing to do is to rent a car. U can rent a car in Tahiti and then take it thru the islands (most of the boats are ferries), but I recommend that u rent a car on every island so that u can take the plane too (more expensive but faster than the boat. Eg : half an hour from Tahiti to Huahine by plane, 8 hours by boat). Except in Tahiti, the bike is an excellent type of transportation tho. Leave a Comment Theme: Ship/Boat

by Aragina Tahiti's main Aiport is in Papeete. This pic was from the Airport :-) I found that walking was cool, but I did get a taxi a lot :-) Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

by meirs 'Le Truck' - you can catch these bus-like trucks that circle Moorea on the main road for about 200CPF (about $1.50 US). They run in both clockwise and counterclockwise directions around the island. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

by meirs If you would like to rent a car on Moorea or Bora Bora I suggest staying away from what are called 'Fun Cars'. These are basically scooters with three wheels. They have a certain cuteness about them and are great for a fun picture. However, they are extremely slow (you'll have to let people pass you on the road constantly), fair chance you'll need help starting one, and you'll still taste the exhaust fumes at dinner. by meirs Unless you're a very good swimmer you'll be taking one of these taxis from Bora Bora's airport. The airport is located on a strip of land across the lagoon from the main island. Leave a Comment Theme: Ship/Boat

by ThereAndBack Unless you have a lot of time for cruising, fly. Cruising the islands was terrific. Otherwise, there are ferrys from island to island. Some of the islands are quite a distance and definitely not a day trip (e.g. Tahiti to Bora Bora). Try the in-land safari. Nice views & excellent guides. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

On Tahiti island, I hitch-hiked and it worked well.. It seems that this kind of moving is very popular and safe Leave a Comment Theme: Other

by Chris_Sopko If you are going to be in Tahiti, definitely take the time to explore the island and get outside of Papeete. The island itself is very nice, but you wouldn't know it if you simply stayed within the confines of the town! We used a local person (Acajou) who had a Mercedes Taxi to take us around. (He's the one in the photo) He was great, funny, and very informative. I don't know his number but he will probably be sitting outside the R3 cruise ship on Friday morning looking for customers!
