Air Moorea

by Helga67

Air Moorea provides 10-minute air taxi service with 13 to 19 flights daily from Tahiti to Moorea. The 18-passenger Dornier departs every hour on the hour from the Air Moorea terminal which lies within easy walking distance from the International Airport of Tahiti Faaa.

International flights

by Helga67

All international flights arrive at the Tahiti Faaa International Airport near Papeete. We came by Air Tahiti Nui and were very satisfied. We were welcomed on board by smiling Polynesian hostesses who offered us a Tiare Tahiti flower. Service and food are excellent and so are the seats (2 near the window and 4 in the middle) with a private screen for every passenger with 6 movies, games and flight info).Air Tahiti Nui has three flights a week from Paris and six from Los Angeles. It will take you 22h from Paris and 7.5 h from Los Angeles to Tahiti.Economy-class passengers are allowed 20 kg (44 pounds) and a carry-on bag that will fit under your seat (115 cm/45 in).

Air Tahiti

by Helga67

Air Tahiti operates the domestic scheduled flights between the islands of French Polynesia and provides a well-run air service. They offer four different air passes, allowing you to combine several islands. The restrictions are that one is allowed one stop per island and the pass is valid for 28 days. It is a good service when you are thinking of doing some island hopping.

FAAA Airport

by b1bob

Because Tahiti is so far from Los Angeles, Auckland, and other places, the majority of international activity at FAAA airport takes place in the wee hours of the morning. That morning, we were off to Sydney, Australia but we had a long layover in Auckland, New Zealand. On arriving at the airport, we had to queue up for what seemed to me like an eternity. In addition to being trapped in a non-air-conditioned building, a group from New York tried to push forward in queue saying to me, "Move it, John Boy!" I kicked that member of the group square in the bum because I don't take pushy folks. Next, we passed through security scrutiny. The agent tried to make me put my camera through the x-ray machine. I am not unreasonable. I was all for the concept of checking my camera and film, by hand. Because I know that x-rays can destroy film, I stood firm, unconditionally refusing. I didn't know when...

LE TRUCK

by swesn

These are trucks which are the public transports of French Polynesia. In the section behind, there are two benches. The windows and the back are open up for one to catch the natural breeze. The main Tahiti island has a more regular le truck service. Fares are 130 Polynesian Francs. While it is stated that they charge 100 Francs for each baggage, try not to proffer it unless they ask for it. They do not seemed too concerned about it. There is also a NIGHT charge of 100 Francs (can’t quite remember the amount now, I am sorry). In Moorea, the le truck or public bus are available to meet the arrival and departure of the ferries to and from Tahiti. At other times, they do not run.

Le Truck

by b1bob

Because we had the whole of the morning free to go shopping, we headed for beautiful downtown Papeete by means of transport that would not be permitted in the United States. In Tahiti, they convert trucks into a combination taxi-bus putting benches in the back of the truck. Tahitians (all speak French) call this inventive mode of transport le truck. You can get around the whole island of Tahiti in 30-45 minutes.

Unless you have a lot of time for cruising, fly.Cruising the islands was terrific. Otherwise, there are ferrys from island to island. Some of the islands are quite a distance and definitely not a day trip (e.g. Tahiti to Bora Bora).Try the in-land safari. Nice views & excellent guides.
