TIPS WHEN VISITING KATOOMBA VALLEY

by AusPinay

When visiting Scenicworld at KAtoomba, visitors are urged to follow certain rules strictly:1. Visit the toilets before visiting the valley as they are far once you are in the valley.2. Do not leave the walkway- its fences protect the rainforest from people.3. Do not touch the plants. They are very fragile and this can cause them to die.4. Do not SMOKE in the valley.5. Please take all litter with you. Whenever I am away,I miss the beauty and cleanliness of our spectacular nation- especially the valley at Katoomba and the Blue Mountains HEritage site s a whole. So we must follow the rules to keep it beautiful!

TIPS for LOW-COST FAMILY TRAVEL (SYDNEY& BEYOND)

by AusPinay

SOME GENERAL TIPS on BUDGET/LOW-COST FAMILY TRAVEL1. If you can manage it, try to go on holidays/vacation before the peak season starts. Make sure though that your kids will not be disadvantaged. You can do this by planning the vacation dates towards the end of school terms.2. Compare fares and accommodation using reputable web sites and show these to your travel agent. See if he/she can give you a better deal or equal what you got in the net without having to go back to those sites. Sometimes it is better travel agents do the work if you have multiple trips in one holiday or going to different countries/places. One site that we always use is expedia.com.au as air and hotel packages are offered here at discounted rates compared to travel agent prices.3. Follow the exchange rates of your currency. There are times when the Aussie dollar is stronger vis-a-vis the US dollar or other...

Green Island

by bianchis

I found there were too many shop on the island and it is very touristic. The beach itself and the corals are great. It can get scorching hot so stay in the shade and use lots of sun screen. The Yellow Semi-Submarine" is a great way to see the underwater world in air-conditioned comfort with a lively fish feeding display and commentary. Taking the boat from Cairns to Green Island on a day's trip. Situated on Australia's beautiful Great Barrier Reef just 45 minutes off-shore from Cairns, Green Island is a small coral cay of 15 hectares surrounded by a magnificent coral reef.

Making Shell Chimes

by aussirose

Ever made shell chimes with the kids?It was one of our favourite things to do, especially on our verandah with the sea breeze cooling us down after a hot summer day at the beach. Oh, and a glass of wine too :o) Mmmm, I miss our van at Hastings Point!!! :o)

Have you done it yet? How to do it.

by unravelau

How to hug a tree.......if you are a person not a koala that is.Go into any Australian forest. Close your eyes and and centre yourself. Take three deep breaths and line up the object of your affections. Walk slowly, yet purposefully with arms outstretch ready for the embrace. When you have arrived, let the right cheek gently rest on the bark while you enclose as much of its trunk as you can, in your arms. Close your eyes and give thanks that we still have trees to produce our oxygen and allow us to live on earth. I miss hugging my friends and family most when I am away from home.

Walk through a rainforest......now.

by unravelau

Favorite Thing:One of many favourite things about Australia is the rain forest magic. It is like walking into a mystical sea, but not getting wet..........oops that is not quite right because you can actually get a bit damp just walking in one. And, what with frequent showers (otherwise why would we call it 'rain forest'), you are likely to get very damp. Some kind of insect repellant would be a must, plus your raincoat (a light one because it can be very steamy in there), and a small container of salt could be useful too (for leaches). A friend now living in NZ, formerly of the UK and a new member now of VT, proudly displayed his leech bight for a photograph.............must ask him to show it here. He gained it on a walk through Dorrigo National Park. Fondest Memory:Miss the beach and my family mostly.http://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/parks.nsf/dec_contacts/C041?Opendocument

Early Morning Walk

by unravelau

Favorite Thing:The first place that I would take a visitor to is the beach where I walk most mornings. There is something absolutely heartstarting about Australia's beaches.....and it doesn't really matter which one, they are all beautiful. The mid north coast where I live, and early in the morning is clean, quiet and different every day.......just amazing. If I could bottle it up and give a piece to everyone I would. Fondest Memory:Of course when away in Italy I miss my family and the early morning beach walk most of all.I really enjoyed raising my family of 2 sons and a daughter, but there is something even more special about grandchildren. They sure do add a dimension to your life.......it must have something to do with unconditional love. It just beams out of the little blossoms.http://www.visitcoffsharbour.com/coffsharbour/beach.html

More funny/unusual signs

by Kate-Me

Some more typical & a couple of not so typical signs in Australia. 1: Duck crossing2: The first really multicultural road sign I've seen - in the Sunraysia district of Victoria, near Mildura. 3: Who is the skipper = in this case, who's the captain/driver, designated driver?4. Typical outback and farm sign, warning to watch out for stock on the roads.

it all started

by pepples46

for me 1987, my year of a long travel down under, arriving at Auckland on New Years Eve, quite a good start I thought. travelling through the North Island for 3 weeks, then heading to the South Island. from Picton to the Bluff.now it is 2005...I didn't know it would be that long, I am still here :-) and loving every minute...and meanwhile the City has crown rapitly...300 000 thousand call the place home I had seen this Fountain before...right, in Kingscross..Sydney, the same Artist had just finished this one here in Christchurch/New Zealand. nice connection I thought.
