Emus

by Kate-Me

You'll see plenty of Emus out in the outback as you're travelling around. You don't even have to be in the outback to see them either. They are curious birds, and those used to humans are usually anything but shy! (ie they'll steal your picnic lunch if they're given even half a chance, so beware!...standing 5 feet tall, in the battle for your lunch, they can be a bit intimidating.)

Flooding in the Wet Season

by Kate-Me

The Wet Season in Northern Australia (Northern Territory, Queensland) is normally between October - about the end of March. As you see from the photo, this time of year really isn't a good time to go touring! During the wet season, there always seems to be floods, at least somewhere, and they can last for weeks.

the West Coast

by pepples46

of the South Island/NZ makes a big impression on everybody who visit for the first time. it is such a special place, raw, rough, charming, beautiful and sooooo down to earth.the people, the food, the weather and the majestic Rainforest. and the Glaciers, the walks and hikes one can take or just realy relax and go fishing, kicking back. people say the clock goes a little slower at the Coast...that means also, one will not find all the distraction one get in the big Cities. Hokitika does not have a Cinema, and Sky TV has just arrived. Internet connections are not everywhere so the humble Mobil phone..just does not work everywhere because no signal, over the Mountains which divide the Canterbury Plains from the West Coast. so that's why you can go away from it all all the above and Nitelife looks like this:-))

by rodgercat

definitely do the Sydney Harbour Bridge climb, also go caving or abseiling in Bungonia Gorge, go hiking in the Blue Mountains, see the Koalas and Kangeroos on Kangeroo Island, go on a wine tour. As you can see it is hard to name just one thing. Australia is such a big country that no matter where you are there is something interesting to see and do. It also helps if you have some Aussie friends to show you the sights. I was on a Rotary Group Study Exchange. It is definitely the people I met.

As a climb leader on the Sydney Harbour Bridge, I would have to say 'Climb the grey coathanger'! It's totally awesome!! The beaches and bodysurfing. There's no better feeling that being on top of a wave, and letting it take you all the way into the shore.

Go bungy jumping!! It is a must. With the A.J. Hacket company you have three jumps to choose from. If you are going to do any, do the Nevis, it's 450ft. high and the most mind blowing thing I have ever done Bungy jumping and then going hiking in the hills amoung all of the sheep

Brisbane .. You have to see Australia Zoo .. most of you may not have heard of Steve Urwin, The Crocodile Man. He has an entertaining show at Australia Zoo.Sydney had too many people and too many one way streets, I personally didn't like it very much but those who like to be surrounded entirely by people and traffic and live a non-stop pace will love Sydney.Melbourne was great, good shopping, good food, good clubs, easy to get around .. however it is very cold if you are going in Winter so you might want be aware of that one unless you are from Iceland!!Adelaide was quiet and not very happening! No more to say about it actually! The Nullabour Plain was fantastic, the lookouts are a not to be missed experience!Esperance, Margaret River .. what can I say .. if you read on through this Aussie home page you will soon discover that this was most definately one of my favourite spots. by Philmantra

If you are anywhere near Queensland, you must visit Moreton island. every evening they have an organised dolphin feed, where you get to feed the dolphins as they come in close to the shore. You can also have your pic taken feeding them. My fondest memory of Australia has got to be how the people are genuinely friendly and treat you at face value. Of course the beautiful weather was welcome.

by canuckcj

Take a longer look at New Zealand then just a quick 1 week stop in Auckland. There is so much to see from the Top of Cape Reinga in the North Island to Queenstown in the South Island. The people are super friendly especially in smaller towns. In Australia, take your time. There is so much to see. I especially liked north of Cairns. It rains quite a bit, but well worth it. In New Zealand there are many memories. One of the best was when Elana, Chelsea, and myself were camping in Picton. the wind was unreal! When we were setting up the tent we had to make sure there was always someone holding it. Even with our backpacks in the tent, it would blow over. Anyways...The wind was something crazy! When we were finally tucked into our tent we were laying there wondering how we were ever going to fall asleep. The tent was being blown ontop of our faces!

by FPHoughton

Sydney has a lot to offer as far as metro areas go, however in it's own way it remains isolated from the rest of Australia. If you want a true Aussie experience, get in the bush, get to the reef and by all means hang with the locals!Best recommendations: Hit the bush and most definitely snorkel your brains out on the Great Barrier Reef. Relaxing in the GBR with a snorkel hanging from my mouth!
