One of the biggest mistakes you can make is if you are refused something when offered. If you are invited somewhere, don't say you'll go if you don't mean it, if you don't show up they will be offended. And if someone offers you food, take it, even if you are on a diet, taste some or throw it away after awhile, but the absolute refusal of something when it is offered is an insult to them.

Wednesday nights there is a big cultural fiesta at the Chamorro village, with chamorro dishes and some dancing and a market like thing. Go at least once. The food is great. You have to try Kelaguen and if you have rice, definitely try the finadene sauce, YUMMMMM!!!! Unless you can imagine rice with a shrimp kind of flavour, avoid the red rice.

Take time to meet some of the locals. There are some nice little communities around the island. Be sure to slow down to 15 mph when driving throught the villages and stop at the little stores and/or cafe's to see the social evolution of Guam after many transitions. Being aware of the history of the island and its people is appreciated in these encounters.

Look for landmarks

by pangelipc

People on Guam & maybe other places give directions by offering landmarks to guide people. One of those long time landmarks is the Tamuning McDonalds -- which is over 30 years on Guam.

The Chomoros (local indiginous people) are very friendly and hospitable.. We were at a beach on Mother's Day and a local family invited us to share in their family dinner on the beach. What a spread.
