eating in Guam: for starters

by bibas

OK, U wanna Shop, lie on the Beach, go siteseeing, experience all sorts of water sports AND try nice cuisine too ? Einstein don't say so, 'cause TIME is limited . and that's why food comes towards the end of the list at my site . but NO, it doesn't mean U gotta starve like the POW's during WW-II here . it just means : find a nice place to eat in between the Shops & beaches 8) so, if I may, just a /few/ recommendations : press 'all restaurants' above(sorry .. after I got finished w/ this page, it got to be a full-blown restaurant section .. well, will eat, go Shopping !)

El Asado: Korean style BBQ-Yakiniku

by tedandtina

Excellent and fresh meat and seafood for grilling at the table. They have free pick up and drop off service to the local hotels. Service is good, though it is a buffet. Meats and other dishes are constantly refreshed and filled. The bone-in marinated rib ,eat tastes so good when it is grilled. The crab legs are delicious, too. No butter sauce, though.

Don't get caught

When in restaurants make sure you get the local minue as the tourist minue will cost more then the food is worth. There are many restaurants to choose from on the island from Koren to getting a burger at Burger King. If you do go there you do need to eat some local foods. I don't know if my spelling is good on this but here goes.Ponset, red rice and lumpia just to name a few. It has been so long since I was there I can't really remember what was what when it comes to the food.

Curry Kabob: Indian Food

by zirakzadeh

Like most of the restaurants, it lack ambience. It just has your basic chair-table set up. However the food is again excellent. Their Rose flavored Yogurt drink is excellent. All of their vegetarian dishes are well spiced and not too salty. Overall, excellent food.

The King and I: Thai Food

by zirakzadeh

There are many excellent Thai restaurants on the Island. My favorite is "The King and I" in Tamuning on Ypao Rd next to the English Pub. All of their dishes are excellent. They also make the best Thai Ice Tea of all the other restaurants.

Pojo's: Quick Guam Food

by JenNJohn

Pojo's is great for quick local food. It is located in the villiage or Agana, sort of a fast food restaurant but with island foods. We went here quite a bit if we were having a craving for Guam fiesta food but didn't know of any fiesta's going on.Best thing is if you call them in advance they can do large quantity dishes for you to take to a fiesta or bring to a potluck. My perfect meal at Pojo's would be skewred BarBQue chicken with red rice, and lumpia if they have it.The best part would have to be the freshly made, WARM tortillas. I would pay just about anything to taste those again.

Jeff's Pirates Cove and Treasure island Gift Shop: The Works

by Trina2383

If you are down in the southern part of Guam be sure to stop by. Have some Haagen Dazs ice cream or an ice cold Budweiser. On the first Sunday in December and June, Jeff's features the Pirates Cove Arts and crafts fairs, with over 100 participants presenting their handiwork. Jeff's Pirates Cove t-shirts are a must have souvenirs of your trip to Guam. The Cove is know to be one of the finest beach bars on the island! Jeff's always has fresh fish and Chamoru Fiesta favorites.

Top o' the Mar: Top o' the Mar

by Texapina

Mongolian BBQ...sold by weight, cooked in huge outdoor vats while you wait and watch the sun set. You can eat indoors, but most folks prefer to eat on the outdoor patio. Everything, especially their weekly Mongolian BBQ.

Jeff's Pirate Cove: Away from the maddening crowd

by geekgrrl

This is a combination site: restaurant, museum, swimming cove. chicken Kelaguen - a local dish made with chicken, lemon juice, coconut, onion, and red hot peppers. I had the Fiesta Plate for $10 which included “a combination of local favorites-BBQ chicken, BBQ Ribs (Jeff’s uses ironwood for cooking, which imparts a special flavor tot eh well-marinated ribs and chicken), red rice [I am not sure what makes it the bright red-orange that it is] marlin and chicken Kelaguens, and a side salad.

Shirley's: Great local restaurant

by geekgrrl

Shirley's is THE local restaurant with various locations on the island. It is where people go to eat good food at a very inexpensive price. I usually had breakfast at Shirley's. If you like your bacon crispy, make sure you ask for 'crispy bacon'. The fried rice is a delicious specialty.
