this is where to head for if U land in 3 a.m. and cannot sleep . supposedly the largest K-Mart store in the world (I doubt it). this pre-Wal-Mart era all-in-one multi-store is open 24 hours ! I recommend just about everything except the clothes - not fashionable enough when you go duty-free shopping in the morning . I've heard of the Japanese who just come to Guam to shop minor items here . (and then ofcourse, come daylight : they head for DFS)
the intersection connecting the above 2 landmarks : DFS and the Plaza is where you'll meet paths with more tourists than any other place within Tumon shopping area .it is the place to see and be seen in this island, cough . and to prove that man NOR woman cannot survive soley by shopping : it is surrounded by 4 brand-name restaurants : Planet Hollywood, TGIF, Sam Choys and Outback SteakHouse .. yummy 8)
a true trendy in-door shopping plaza by the beachwalk . and yesss, I WOULD open my dreamshop here . connected is the most exciting game center in Guam . nice selection of classy but NOT nescessarily expensive boutiques and cafes spread on 2 floors .
DFS, short for Duty Free Shop .dunno how it came to be, but I boldly declare this as the unofficial CENTER of all shopping life in Guam . plus, they have other branches, even at the airport for your last shopping spree before U fly out . selections of duty-free items from around the globe, minus only electronics & computers . as a vt member you know by now "Duty-Free" don't mean it's always cheap .daily amenities R mucho cheaper in surrounding malls .I guess we're talkin'European designers here . so you'll realize the bulk of customers R Japanese .but suprisingly there R many items everyone can afford .
best all-around shopping 24 hours : K-Mart,trendiest mall : Micronesia Mall,and a close runner-up : Premium Outlet Mall,the God of Duty-Free Shopping : DFS,best shopping by the beach : The Plazadesigner label heaven : Tumon Sands Plazafew young brands in Miami art deco : Acanta Mall(click on 'see all' above for further details) yep, been to it all .wish had more time for the ones further South from Tumon tourist area .the further you go, the less they R & it gets more local, and you'll need a car .
While visiting Guam, one must take time to make the holy pilgrimage to that bastion of American consumerism: KMART. This particular Kmart is life line of sundries not just for Guam, but the Micronesia area in general... Hurry before the whole corporation implodes into bankrupcy... (A clear and present danger...)
Guam has two large shopping plaza's the specialize in tourist type of luxury items. The Tuman sands plaza has a tiffany's rolex watch store, cartier, burberry, etc and the DFS (duty free shopping) plaza has about the same. Both shopping areas are heavily advertised and do a brisk business as the Japanese tourists really help the local economy with thier purchases. There is also a K mart and that is a hugely popular store. Two other malls are on the island..Micronesia mall and GPO (Guam Premium Outlet) which have excellent food courts. Designer clothes, upscale watches, and fashionable jewelry. However, even without the taxes (no taxes on Guam), they still seem pricey. Full retail.
The K-mart on Guam is said to be the world's largest, but I think it just seems that way, because the island is so small and even the smallest stores take up a lot of space. Well, as you would guess the prices are jacked up just a bit...ok ok...a lot, but they are open 24 hours a day, so that's always a plus!!
Guam Premium Outlets has a variety of outlet shops within its facility that sell name-brand merchandise at discounted prices. But the best shop would have to be ROSS. Isn't that just crazy! A Ross, but no Wal-Mart!Guam Premium Outlets also contains a large food court that offers an array of international cuisine. Micronesia Mall is the largest American-style shopping mall in the Western Pacific. In addition to their 120 shops, boutiques and restaurants, they also have a Macy's department store and a Pay-Less Supermarket. The Mall is also home to 10 theaters that play the latest movie attractions. The Food Court is home to 19 restaurants and has a seating capacity of 750 people. As you relax and eat, the kids can amuse themselves at the Mall's "Funtastic Park," an indoor amusement center with rides and games. All in all, Micronesia Mall has something for everyone.
