Jeff's pirate cove

by bmiller39

Jeff's priate cove is on the East side of the Island which is not inhabited or built up..the restaurant is on a cove and it is the sight where some of the last Japanese soldiers lived long after the war's end unaware that it was over. It is only open during the day, but the view is fantastic..there is a small museum on the grounds and some fishing platforms built on the coral reef that you can walk to..Food is local with lots of fresh reef fish and tuna..well worth a trip

Tumon Bay

by kenmerk

Well say what u want about Tumon Bay, it certain has its good points and bad points. The bay is attractive, with clear water and nice coral growth, and access to water sports here is good. Also, if you're in Guam for shopping, I suppose that there isnt much that cant be had around here. The problem is its just a little to built up. Hugh concrete high rise hotels line the bay. (Waikiki-ish feel) And the amount of tourist schlock about gives the area a bit of an unappealing feel. I much prefer the other less developed islands of Micronesia to Guam, but if find here, I'm sure u can find ways to enjoy yourself for a few days...

Fort Soledad

by kenmerk

Fort Soledad is an old Spanish installations that sits on a hilltop on the south side of Umatac Bay. Quite an attractive stretch of coast line is to be had here, and quite historic as well. This is the bay that Magellan sailed into in 1521, not so long before being killed in the Phillippines on his round the world journey. It remained a major Spanish port of call in the Pacific for centuries there after....

Gaan Point

by kenmerk

Nice beach side park at Gaan with some World War 2 memorabilia to look at including an anti aircraft gun, a coastal defense gun, and and some partially intact Japanese defense bunkers... (this area was a major invasion point when the US attacked Guam in July 1944.

by Texapina

Visit Chamorro Village, at least once, while on-island. Yes, it's like a huge commercial flea market of sorts, open air stands mixed in with tourist-y shops. There are sit-down restaurants or family-run food stands. Tables are covered with local cuisine and local arts & crafts, as well as items you can buy at the Kmart down the street. Live local music is also heard here. Oh, there is also a carabao (water buffalo) that you can ride around the Village (photo, too)...all for a small fee (of course!)Be prepared to spend some significant change. You may be on Guam, but it's still America!Chamorro Village is over 20 years old...when I left the island in 1981, the shops weren't there and the central focus was the huge covered stage where my dance group performed during fiesta. The food is great...don't be afraid to try the chicken kelaguen, especially if you like hot and spicy food. (Red rice...

Aquariam

by zirakzadeh

With all the natural beauty of the oceana t your disposal , you wouldn't think that an Aquarium would be a must see. But this walk through aquarium is one of the best I have seen. While it is not that large, it has some of the most beautiful fish I have ever seen.

Jungle Trekking

by zirakzadeh

Join the Boonie stompers and see the roads less travelled. These group of Island Hikers go on walk abouts every weekend and take along who ever cares to join them. You can trek through rivers, over waterfall, and into caves with these intrepid adventurers. Some times they take prexisting paths. Othertimes the blaze their own trails. This is a great way to see some of the beauty the island has to offer. If you happen to go on a trip with them and happen to find a pair of rimless glass in a pool under a waterfall then write me.

snorkling

by zirakzadeh

there is also excellent and safe snorkling on Guam with crystal clear waters, beautiful coral, and colorful fish. Inside the reef on Tumon Bay gives you nice shall snorkling (less than 10 feet). Outside the reef at Gun beach gives you deeper snorkling (20 -30 feet).

scuba diving

by zirakzadeh

Learning to scuba dive in Guam is very inexpensive compared to most other places in the world (especially Australia, USA). There are some nices places to scuba dive -Blue Hole, Piti Point, Double reef. It also has some interesting wrecks -the Tokai/Maru (two ships from world war I and II that were sunk next to each other). Two good dive shops are MDA and Guam Tropical Dives.
