Betio in South Tarawa is the only place in Kiribati where you can do anything like a pub crawl, especially on a weeknight, when everywhere else is dead. I started off in the Gateway Nightclub, which looks more like a Cambodian prison, but true to the hospitable form of the Kiribati people, I was soon befriended and taken around a variety of watering holes which I didn't get the names of but had a great time in, finishing very drunk and happy in the early hours of the morning.
Dress Code: The only dress code is that you must BE dressed! Anything goes. If you want to turn up barefoot in a filthy, torn vest, that's fine! In fact, wearing sandals would appear to be the height of smart dress in Betio nightspots!

The Otintaai is Kiribati's premier hotel and restaurant and one of the biggest nightspots at the weekend. On weeknights, you can get a drink, but more often than not the only people there are diners, so it is very quiet. At the weekend, both Friday and Saturday nights, the hotel holds public discos, which are very loud and busy and go on until the early hours of the morning. The Friday night disco is preceded at 8pm by a traditional dance performance.
Dress Code: Collars and shoes or trainers (no sandals)

Not much light polution on Kiribati, especially not on the outer islands. Watching beautiful sunsets and moonlit sky is free, and you can do it everywhere :-)
On the main picture you can actually see artifical light from Betio harbour on the opposite side of the lagoon.
