You do not have to travel to another country and spend every night in a night club, you can do that at home! Why not take a night to do something different? My wife and I found a secluded spot, safely built a fire and spent a quiet night together taking in a part of this beautiful part of the world.

    Harrah's Sky City Casino,
    Auckland
    by hopang
Sky City Casino (formerly Harrah's Sky City Casino) is located at the base of Sky Tower in the Central Business District of Auckland. It opens round the clock and everyday. There are approximately 1,600 slot machines and more than 100 classic table games spread over two levels. It is the only casino in Auckland and the second in New Zealand.

Sky Tower is also home to a 700 seat theatre, a convention centre, several bars and restaurants and two leading hotels.

No proper dress code is required.

Taupo: The best nighlife in NZ

  • The best nightlife is definitely in Taupo. Start in the pub, watching rugby with the locals and hop to a few other pubs afterwards, with your lastpub being Mulligan's. If you feel the booze kicking in take your a$$ up the stairs into the Holy Cow for a boogy and some more drinks and a whole lot of fun. Everyone is here and it's the perfect night out!

Now where was my hostel again???

    No jandals/ thongs/ flip flops

Settle yourself on the terrace of Danny Doolan's in the harbour of Auckland and you're in for a great time. The rpices of the drinks are reasonable and if the weather is good you'll get a nice tan too. The harbour is a happening place so someting is always going on.

good times on a pub crawl
    by Terra_H
In NZ, they have these things called pub crawls-where a group of people rent out a bus for the night and the bus drives you around to different pubs (usually within a city). I went on one through my University and had a blast. They are really fun. Some of the buses have a dance floor where the back seats used to be and most (if not all) of the pub crawls feature loud, thumpin' music. These are really great for birthday parties or any similar event, because everyone can get pissed beyond belief, but everyone makes it home safely.

all depends on the bus line, but I've never heard of any restrictions. Some pubs, however, have dress codes, so check before you go-a lot of the nicer pubs don't allow sneakers (tennis shoes, runners, whatever...)

  • Crazy party in the Poo Pub - New Zealand
Crazy party in the Poo Pub
    by martin_nl
This is one of the best party pubs in the whole of New Zealand. The Kiwi Experience bus stops at Lake Mahinapua's Poo Pub, with the oldest pub owner in the world, Les. He is a great guy and has a fantastic pub. It's awful and that makes it so great. Every evening there is a different theme and we had bin bags. So we had to create our own costumes out of some bin bags. Hmmmm, where to star? By buying bin bags of course. Everyone created something different and it was an hilarious evening. One to never forget!!!

    Different every night.

    At the ice bar

This is a bar made of ice!! You pay about $18 USD and get 1 free vodka drink with entry. They also provide you with a warm jacket, boots, and gloves. You can only stay inside the bar for 30 minutes but it is a pretty cool experience to do one time only. There are heaps of ice sculptures inside and really everything is made out of ice - including the drink glasses.

Guess it doesn't matter because you are covered up by a big jacket!

Christchurch has a great nightclub scene if you are into dance music (ie drum&bass, house, trance etc). With places such as Ministry, Mansion, Eye Spy, Carbon, Base and the Civic Christchurch is well wet up if you are a bit younger and have plenty of energy. The flavour of the places vary from more Trance and House to full on Drum&base. If you are not sure which place will suit then walk around and visit a few of them.

As they are all fairly close it isn't too hard on the feet!! Be aware though of a 1am lockout law that seems to have gained a foothold. Most of these places are open until the wee hours but a local law (enforced by the clubs at Police request) stops people from re-entering clubs after 1am. Once you are inside the club and having fun you can stay there all night but don't try to leave and go somewhere else if it's after 1am - you may not be allowed in!!

Casual is normally okay but some bouncers can get a bit precious if they are having a bad night. Keeping your appearance tidy should ensure that there are no 'downer' moments.

  • Cool music. These huge 'tables' to dance on, a bigscreen TV that plays videos and sports.

If I remember correctly, no sneakers or tennis shoes (whatever you wanna call them.) But, pretty much anything else goes. People usually dress pretty nice for going out, though.

  • Although both Wellington and Auckland have their fair share of nightspots nowadays I had the most excellent time in the town of Napier. There are several good bars and clubs well worth checking out.
Party the night away and the go and relax on the beach. But watch out for the strong tide if you are considering a midnight dip in the ocean!!

Smart/casual or, in many places, there is no dress code.
