Angus Steak House (I don’t believe it has any association with the chain restaurants in London) – For $25 NZD, you can select your own meat, rather it is T-bone, top sirloin, filet mignon, or even lamb. While the cook is preparing your steak, you help yourself with the salad bar. The steak house claimed it has the world’s best steak. See for yourself. Leave a Comment

Nominally a Creperie, this restaurant is about so much more than crepes. Evening menu is fantastic and ever-changing. Great french food, served by friendly staff. Service was helpful without being condescending. Moderately priced with a good selection of french wines. You will need to book in advance!
Escargot any style - they always seem to get them cooked perfectly to 'melt in your mouth'. Crepes with stewed spiced apple and calvados - fantastic tastes, and you get to watch everyone else in the restaurants heads turn when they light them on fire!! On a recent visit to Auckland we were staying in a city hotel and felt like an Indian meal for dinner. We headed off to look for the nearest Indian restaurant but unbelievably, we couldn't find one ... anywhere on Queens Street. This was getting serious but then I saw it. A small blackboard was leaning against a wall advertising an Indian Restaurant, success at last .. so we followed tha arrows until we found it. I don't remember the name of the place but I do remember that it was on LORNE STREET. Now, Lorne Street is only a few blocks long so don't despair, if you crave an Indian for dinner .. just find Lorne Street and you will have suceeded.
mmmm Lamb Nawabi most definitely. Leave a Comment Theme: IndianPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: LORNE STREET,Directions: City Centre

The name says it all: this is a shop and cafe devoted to chocolate. And no, it's not just like every other chocolate shop with high quality, handmade chocolates to purchase. Chocolate products from New Zealand and all around the world may be procured here, from the modestly priced but tasty NZ Bloomsbury chocolate, to the expensive imported Valrohna chocolate. In addition to buying chocolate in a box, the Chocolate Boutique is also a cafe with an extensive menu for eat-in or takeaway treats. Choose from a good variety of freshly made decadent chocolate desserts (sundaes, cakes, Death By Chocolate, brownies, cookies, biscotti, etc), hot and iced chocolate drinks (such as traditional Mexican drinking chocolate, frappes, smoothies, milkshakes), coffees (lattes, espressos, etc) and traditional and herbal teas. I visited the cafe a few times, once or twice for rich chocolate treats (Chocolate mud cake - hmmmmm), other times to just poke around the huge selection of goodies and to purchase gifts to bring back home. Ah, happy memories! The shop opens at 11am and stays open until 10pm in the evening for those late-night cravings. Be prepared for a sometimes busy and packed shop - it's a not large shop and it can get crowded quickly as people mill about, admiring and sampling and deciding what to buy and eat.
Anything chocolate, 'cos it's good for what ails you. :) Leave a Comment

This small coffee and tea house is tucked away at the end of the Queens Shopping Arcade. A wonderful place for a quiet break from shopping and the rush of the city, this little shop offers speciality loose teas, coffees, and pastries and light snacks. Sit inside or at the tables just outside the shop within the enclosed arcade area. I visited a number of times while I was in Auckland, because it was the perfect way to relax after a busy day before heading back to the hostel for the evening. Coming from a nation that drinks mainly bagged tea, a visit to a *real* teahouse is something for me to savour and enjoy. I love the fact that not only did I get a pot of tea using proper loose tea leaves, but I also received other important details like a small pitcher of milk, pots of white and brown sugar, a little resting plate for my strainer and tea leaves, and extra pot of hot water. The staff are professional but friendly, and know their teas.
Be sure to try a pot of the Rose Earl Grey - it's divine!!! This small restaurant in the remarkably up and coming culinary centre of Birkenhead on Auckland's North Shore, has a really good menu and serves delicious well prepared and presented food. The dining area for the restaurant is above street level, and the cafe is on Mokoia Road.
I can recommend the eye-fillet steak! The coffee here is great too... in fact I broke my rule of drinking coffee in the evening and indulged in a double shot latte (oh how Auckland other kiwis will be muttering)... and it was goooood! The Long Bay Restaurant is in Long Bay on Auckland's North Shore. It is actually in the Long Bay Regional Park and is right on the beach. There is a wonderful deck on which you can have a table and dine with the a Pacific panorama in front of you. I dined there on a balmy early autumn night in March 2004. The food is delicious.
I had the fish dish of the day - Hapuka Steak... melt in your mouth delicacy! For desert I had a huge piece of apple cake with cream cheese filling.... yum!
