Vertigo: Top City and Harbour Views

by pedroswift Written May 25, 2009

As we were staying at Mercure, Customs Street we enjoyed a sundowner drink at the Vertigo Restaurant and bar on the top floor.
Happy hour daily 4:30pm to 6:30 pm provides an opportunity to enjoy both the drink and the views of Auckland CBD and Auckland Harbour. Reduced drink prices as well: Mac's Gold and Mac's Sassy Red $5; House Spirits $5 ; Wines from $7 a glass
After drinks we booked a window front table for diner that night.

Vertigo’s menu is a varied one that will suit all diners. There is a selection of seven Entrees some of which are vegetarian ($8 -$16). Mains selection (14) include several fish dishes, beef, lamb, pork, venison, duck & chicken as well as vegetarian($ 26 -$36). Big eaters have a selection of side dishes (7) from which to choose. The most expensive dish is a 350gram Grain fed beef rump on mash with a fresh tomato and chili salsa.
There are at least six desserts ($13) and a regional cheese platter $16.
    Specials nightly on the blackboard.
The wine list is not extensive but it gives two to five choices from nine wine styles or varieties. More than adequate in my opinion. Nearly every wine offered is New Zealand. They are available in bottle or by the glass. $8.50-$15.00 per glass. Bottles $34.00 to $70.00 excluding Champagne.
Access by wheel chair in the lift …not a problem

Favorite Dish: Madam chose Tiger prawns with chilli oregano & ginger dressing for her entrée and Prosciutto wrapped pork fillet with pear and parsnip. He chose the chef's special on the evening: seafood laksa followed by satay pork. We chose to drink NZ wines by the glass.
We both enjoyed the meal immensely. Tastes were sensational. Presentation spot on.
Standard of service left nothing to be desired. The only hiccup was we ordered one item from the menu which was not available. The oversight was soon corrected and we were presented two free cocktail vouchers to use at the bar to compensate.
    The bill: NZ$125 including tip.
View of the city and harbour…...priceless.
