by keeweechic Victoria Park sits across the road from Victoria Park Market. Sport such as winter rugby , soccer and summer cricket are played here and on one side of the park is also a large skate park with ramps, rail slide bars and walls. The motorway overbridge goes right over the park. Leave a Comment Theme: Sports WatchingAddress: Victoria Street

by keeweechic For something really different if you're feeling energetic is to climb the Auckland Bridge Climb. For the first time since 1959 when the bridge was opened, you can be guided by professional climb leaders and be taken up and over the top of the Auckland Harbour Bridge to viewing platforms 65 metres (200ft) over the water. It takes about 2 hours in all and as long as you are over 135cms (4ft 6 inches) there is no problem. The climb is operated 7 days a week all year around and there is also a night climb on Saturday nights. You will get an entertaining commentary about the myth and legend surrounding this bridge also. I haven't done this yet but my family has (as seen in the photo) and it will be on my list next time I'm home. Leave a Comment Theme: Extreme SportsAddress: Auckland Harbour Bridge

by keeweechic Just down from the Sky Tower in Victoria Street, is 'The Screamer' which is like a reverse bungy jump that we did. It flings you up from the ground, turns you over and continues to bounce you like a yo yo until it eventually slows down and gently brings you back to the ground... Awesome!! Make sure you get a video taken as well... I was captured laughing the whole way through it. Leave a Comment Theme: Extreme SportsAddress: Victoria Street, Downtown

by keeweechic Out in South Auckland you will find one of New Zealand’s top theme parks, Rainbow’s End. There are 23 acres of rides, attractions and entertainment. One of the features is a giant drop tower, log flume, corkscrew roller coaster and Cadbury Land Castle with rides just for the young ones. Parking is free. There is an admission with children under 2yrs being free. There are also family discounts available. Leave a Comment

The fastest way to descend the Skytower by Bernd_L I don't know if I should classify this as a sports tip or as plain madness. But there really are people who jump down from the Skytower. Unlike normal Bungy Jumping however it is no free fall because the jumper is fixed between to steal cables. This way banging against the tower is avoided. But I guess the surge of adrenalin is the same. Leave a Comment Theme: Extreme Sports

by keeweechic Not one jump I am likely to do. This jump is different in the respect that it is a cable-controlled base jump from Auckland’s Sky Tower. You can choose to go feet first or just glide down head first. A special suit with a full body harness is provided and you are attached to a wire cable and a descender unit. The cable drum feeds out the wire behind you as you fall at a controlled speed. As you step off the observation deck on the Sky Tower, you see a miniature red bull’s eye painted on a raised platform 192 metres below. You then fall at about 60kph and as you approach the ground, decelerate until you finally touch down on the lower platform. All in all the jump/fall lasts about 20 seconds. The Sky Jump is supposed to be the highest public tower-based jump in the world. It is 4 times higher than the Taupo Bungy that I did. by keeweechic The Olympic pool is in a art deco style building in Newmarket. The pool was completed in 1939 and it was, in the past, the best swimming pool in Auckland and the British Empire games swimming events held in 1950. There is a main 50m (164ft) pool, a smaller pool, fitness centre, sauna and spa Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: 77 Broadway, Newmarket

by keeweechic The Western Springs speedway has been around in Auckland for 76 years and probably for most of that time it has been a bone of contention for the residences in the area. Unfortunately with the noise and their inability to comply with the noise limits, the speedway may one day be forced to close. I certainly remember as a little girl being dragged along on Saturday nights by my older brothers (because they were made to) to see the speedway. It would be a shame to see it gone. During the year the stadium hosts a maximum of three practice sessions, 20 races, and six concerts. Check out their website for dates of meetings. Viaduct Harbour by Bernd_L As Aucklands nickname "City of Sails" already indicates, many many of its inhabitants regularily enjoy sailing. You'll find a lot of marinas and boat harbours all over the city. One of the most centrally located is Viaduct Harbour. by keeweechic Westhaven Marina is at the entrance to the Hauraki Gulf close to the Harbour Bridge. It is one of the largest and best equipped marinas in the Southern Hemisphere. Their facilities are world class and welcome all sizes of craft. Close to downtown Auckland, shopping malls and restaurants. Leave a Comment Theme: Boating/SailingAddress: 137 Westhaven Drive
